strang prob.

Let me start off by sayin I just put an airdam on well just the middle peaceso no it runs cooler but at idals and stop lights and things like it runs hot like I have a digi-dash so the temp is diff.the middle is 180and over heating is 260 I think can't pic in mind right nowso I can't give an exact # but it runs alil under 260 wut could this be from a thermastat? And the fan runs when susposed to but it blows out hot air from behind (towds engine).and the 2nd prob. Is that the other day goin to school I had my front defrosters on and about 10 mins later I got to school and I put it in park and I t was over heatin and it was idalin at I say 2100 rpm so I thought the tb was stuk openbut was not so I turnd car of and my digi dash went all wild and turned car back on and same thing until I shut off heat and every thing went back to normal so once again is that caused by thermstat?????? Sorry for it bein so long

Re: strang prob.

If its only getting hot when your stopped then the fan is not working right. What kind of fan do you have? Electric or clutch?

Re: strang prob.

A clutch fan is a mechanical fan with a clutch on it. Its attached to the front of the engine. An electric fan is attached to the radiator. Sound like you have an electric though. Did you ever have it off? Was it put back on right? Make sure its not rubbing on the radiator. It might not be running full speed. Is it only getting hot when your stopped and using the a/c or the front defrost or everytime you stop? You may just be getting poor circulation too. Get a garden hose and flush the entire cooling system.

Re: strang prob.

Usually when the engine gets hot at idle its because of the fan not working right, but ya the thermostat might be stuck partially open. go ahead change its. Its cheap and easy to do any way. Before you put the new one in go ahead and flush it out, thats easy to do too.

Re: strang prob.

Drain the old coolant from the radiator. Also remove the engine block drain plug, flush as much of the old coolant out as possible. Looking in the radiator filler, do you see any build up on and around the radiator cooling cores?

From your prior post you mention that the coolant is tan? You might have rust and cooling system build up clogging the radiator cooling core. A home remedy flush might help but it may need professional cleaning services if it's been abused by lack of maintenance.

You can change the themostat easy enough but dont rely on a cooler stat to solve your hot run heating issues. These cars were designed to run hot for emmission compliance reasons. If you later decide to alter it's normal operational temp. (make it run cooler) you'll need to first make sure that you've addressed the current situation.

What's the condition of the water pump? Any leaks, or unusual noise? The belt and hoses in good shape? Replace the radiator cap while your at it.

Does the windshield fog up inside the car?

The air dam is in place?

Just a few suggestions and things to consider and check out...

Good lucK!

Re: strang prob.

The guy I bought it from sold it becuse he did not know why it keeps on over heatin so he told me he change the water pump, and rad. So both are new but when I went to look at the car I noticed the airdam was gone so I went out and bought one but its 3 pieces soi could only put one on the middle becuse my to front side ground aff. Are broken where it screws into, and I don't know if this normal but when the fan turns on (I opened my hood) and it was blowen hot air at me and towards the engine. But I'm goin to do the flush later on today.

Re: strang prob.

This the way my Haynes manual says to do it.
First Drain all your coolant. Radiator and the engine block if possible. there are two drain plugs, one on each side of the engine, about halfway back near the oil pan. If you cant get them out, dont worry about it. Next, I dont know if its necessary or not, but I like to take out the thermostat while I flush, but make sure you have a new gasket first.(put the housing back on). Now put your your hose in the top of the radiator and flush until you see clean water coming out of your drains. After that I also like to do a reverse flush. Disconnect the upper and lower hose from the radiator. Put your garden hose in the bottom radiator hose and spray up in the engine. When the water is clear your done. Put everything back together, put you thermostat back in and fill it back up.
Also rinse out your coolant reservoir.
