wheres it coming from?

I have what i thought was a pretty simp/e prob/em. Im dripping coo/ant big time. i repaced and tightened the hoses and the radiator is fine. it seems to be coming from right above the upper connection of the bottom hose. its dripping on the harmonic ba/ancer. any ideas? im thinking water pump gasket, but im not sure.

Re: wheres it coming from?

go to advance , auto zone , etc . most will do a pressure ck. free . then you will know for sure where where the leak is . my heater diverter valve took a dump , a pressure ck. is how i found it .

Re: wheres it coming from?

I had the same thing. I replaced the hose thinking it was bad and it ended up being my pump. grab a flash light and see if it's coming from the back of the pump or if it's the gasket.

and WATCH your temp. It could easily over heat.

Re: wheres it coming from?

turn the car on and allow to warm up. Then pop the hood and look at the housing of the pump. There is a small hole (supposed to be there). If there is a small amount of water or any at all coming from that hole "weep hole" then the pump is shot. (rebuild or easier yet get a new one, like $40 at napa)

Re: wheres it coming from?

not too bad. this is how i did it:

tools: cheap torque wrench (autozone 40 bucks), sockets, 1/2 breaker bar, sockets, ratchet, high temp gasket sealer, threadlocker, penetrating lube

I would suggest using a radiator flush if the system can hold it. Might as well since you will be draining it anyway.

1. drain all the coolant out of the radiator
2. allow annoying neighbor dog that barks all night to drink it (okay not really)
3. remove the lower radiator hose
4. remove the belt by using a 1/2" breaker bar on the tensioner.
5. using an extension remove the lower bolts then the upper bolts. (4 bolts total)
6. take off bolts (4) that hold on the pulley on the pump.
7. remove the pulley (i had to let mine soak overnight to get it to loosen, you could get a puller but not really needed)
8. put pulley on new pump.
NOTE: tap on gently then tighten like a car rim in a criss cross fashion so it lays flat. I put a little WD40 on it to help it set.
9. clean the bolts for the pulley and put on thread locker (red)
10. torque down according to manual (a must!)
11. scrape off the old gasket off the block trying not to get any inside the block.
12. put a thin line of high temp RTV one both sides of both gaskets.
13. stick them to the new pump (be careful they don't fall off)
14. put red threadlocker on the pump bolts that hold it to the block.
15. holding it as still and as close to the block as possible ( a friend might be helpful ) tighten all the bolts by hand.
16. torque the bolts according to spec. (manual)
17. reattach the lower radiator hose
18. refill water with distilled water (helps keep system clean) and the appropriate amount of anti-freeze for your climate, driving conditions etc.
19. This is also a good time to change the radiator cap (cheap insurance)
20. start the car with the hood up and allow to warm up to operating temperature. check for leaks.
21. get a can of engine degrease and clean the engine. you might have antifreeze on it from the leak.
22. step back and enjoy your accomplishment. >hooray!!<
