okay, i get how to wire up a toggle switch and still let the fan work normal when the switch is off, but i have a question...

could i add a LED or small lightbulb (ie, the kind that you find in gauge clusters etc) to the wire i run to ground it, so that when my toggle switch is on, the light is on?

 

Dude, just buy a switch with a LED built in...

 

i want the light in the dash, and the switch elsewhere....so.....would it work? any problems/issues i should be aware of?

 

I'm not sure I remember how I did it, but I did the same thing - I have led's in the speedo cluster, 1 comes on with fans, 1 comes on with the torque converter lock up, and I installed 2 others for future goodies.

 

you would need to wire the positive end of the LED to the switch and the negative to a power source (fuse box works).

 

Steeljab, do you still need to know how to wire an LED to show when your fan/fans are on? There is also a way to hook-up manual toggle switches that connect to ground only so no issues with shorts/miswiring. If you still need the info let me know and I will post tomorrow after I look at how I wired my Iroc.

 

interested in knowing how to hook up manual toggle switches that connect to ground only. ive heard of them, but havent really looked into it. ive got my fans coming on w/a temp switch but i think i think thqat by the time they come on, the temp is already on the way up and hard to bring back down.
any help is appreaciated, sorry for the thread jack

Steeljab, splice (do not cut) into the green/white wire at the fan relay with a new piece of 18 gauge wire and connect it to the manual switch. Connect another piece of wire to the other connector on the switch and ground it. The fan should now turn on with the new switch as long as the ignition switch is in the "run" position. If your car is a `91 or `92 the wire should be gray instead of green/white. For the LED, splice, do not cut, into the 12 gauge black/red wire at the same fan relay and connect a piece of 22 gauge wire to it. Connect the wire to the positive wire on your LED and ground the other lead. You can install the LED anywhere you have room for it. This has worked out great for me the past couple of years, I like knowing when my fans are on. Let me know how it goes and thanks to "Willie`s Total Fan Control" instructions which I used parts of for this. There are several types of LED`s out there. Get 2 that are 12 volt with 2 leads and the diameter you want. I used 1/4".
