Charging with R12 and STB

Will I need to remove the STB to have the AC charged--that is the charging port, correct?--or is there enough room between the port and the STB? There're other angles in my Car Details below.

Re: Charging with R12 and STB

I just had my A/C checked and my STB was never a problem even when it was converted to R134.

The 3-pt "appears" to run a bit closer to the port, but I'm probably just obsessing as usual. Thanks for the response, DJP.

James, yes that is the port they charge through (low side). iT is hard to tell in the pic but there may not be enough room, especially if they don't have 90* fittings on the end of their hoses (which they often don't for R12).

Took the car in this morning (and it's already finished). No problems with interference.

Re: Charging with R12 and STB

Where in lawrence did you take it? I am looking to have some r-12 evacuated so I can replace an accumulator, but plan on putting r-12 in it again. All the shops here only service 134A now so I can't get serviced.

Cheers!!!

Lawrence Automotive Diagnostics
2854 Four Wheel Drive
Phone: 785 842-8665

Four Wheel Drive is west off Iowa a couple of blocks on 31st.

They replaced the AC pressure cycling switch (which was broken and allowing the R12 to escape) and charged the system for $165.33.

So far I'm very impressed with the shop--enough so that I'll take my cars back to them.

Whew, that's a tight squeeze. I'd think getting the threads on would work. I just wonder if the hose would be pinched trying to get the refrigerant through.

Re: Charging with R12 and STB

Apparently, there was no problem. Car's been running COLD. The switch that I mention above, I suspect, has been at the root of a long battle with my AC, both 12 and 138. How a reputable garage could have missed the leak I'm unsure.
