Well I've seen some TBI guys relocate their heater control valves so I figured I would post some pics of relocating a TPI HCV. Very easy to do with very little loss of coolant. It really cleans up the passenger side of the engine which is why I did it. The first one is before and the other 2 are after pics.

 

nice, i did the same thing to mine. i was able to cram it more over and down, but i used new by the foot hose. really does look much better over there.

 

I bought 2 ft of 5/8 hose and reused the other 2 hoses. The valve will squat down a little more once the new hose heats up.

 

Hi, can anyone show me a pic of which hose goes where in regards to the Heater Control Valve? One hose comes from the TPI, then the top hose goes to what? The T? or the fire wall??

 

Top hose goes to the metal pipe by the headers and lower goes to the firewall.

 

looks good! Do you happen to know how that valve actually works and what directions the flow goes? I'm trying to delete mine and dont know where the hoses should run

 

Ok, THANKS! That's how I have them. I guess the core is clogged. I blew into the hose going into the firewall, and rusty water came out. There wasn't much in there.. installed a new heater control valve. Exposed the core and ran the motor for 30 mins and the core was still cold (yes, I put the lever on HEAT). Wonder what would happen if I ran a water hose into it, trying to unclog it.

 

I'm not sure on flow direction. I think it flows out of the TPI manifold into the valve and out of the top hose on the valve. When the heater is activated I believe it flows through the bottom hose and into the heater core. I'm not 100% sure but it makes sense.

 

deleted mine.From what I understnd the older f bodys didnt even have them.If you look at the engine bay pics in my vb garage the first one is with the leaky heater core bypassed.The second one has a hose going from the intake to the core.I blocked off the metal hose tube that went up to the hcv.The lower metal tube just runs from heater core to radiator.I`m still gonna reroute the top host to get it away from the intake.

 

its very easy i deleted my heater valve. dont mind the ac got a delete box for it... this is like a month old pic..... but i got tired of that valve leaking and eventually exploding on me after it happend 3 times.......

 

I've had to replace mine 3x already. They all cracked in the same spot. They should've made a metal one.

 

the dumb things that gm do.... i just got rid of mine altogether... i will never have to worry about it again......

Great pics. I am about to relocate mine as well. But I have a problem, There have been two engine swaps done on my car and someone messed up how it's connected. So basically here's what I have...

87 Formula, originally a 305 with a carburetor, AC and a 700R4. Right now I have a new 350, carb, headers, AC. There is a hose coming from the passenger side upper radiator going to the port on the HCV that does not have a port under it. Then another hose going from the top port on the HCV to the left heater core port on the firewall. Then another hose going from the right heater core port on the firewall to the port on the Edelbrock Performer EPS intake manifold right in front of the carb. I don't have that metal pipe others have mentioned by my headers. The bottom port on the HCV is capped off, doing nothing.

So, I want to relocate it as soon as possible, but I want to make sure it's all hooked up correctly.

Can anyone tell me if it is? Or describe like I just did, but where everything is supposed to go?

that is a lot of extra rubber. isn't there a way to move it back to te firewall and not put more clutter under the hood?
and we need a metal fitting these get too hot and break and leak.

 

that one hose u have wrapped around the strut mount. doesnt it go into the throttle body?

 

the one that wraps around the strut mount goes to the back of the intake.

 

It does if it is a TPI motor, but he has an RS with a TBI which goes to the back of the intake

Hey everybody! Quick question about these hcv's...Is there a vacuum coming from that hard line that is plugged on the top of the valve? I am working on getting my hvac system back working and not sure if that end is supposed to have a vacuum and when the controls are in what position. I couldnt get any vacuum on mine and notice that Ive always got a hot draft coming through my vents though my switch is on cold.

Sorry for the change of subject haha...but figured yall are working with properly operating hcv's and I could use a little input. Thanks all!
