lt1 fans--installed on third gen radiator complete!!!!!

i have searched and see thaat some people have lt1 and ls1 fans in there car. i think most have put the radiator from that app in at the same time. i just aquired a set of lt1 fans from a freind. when i measured the lt1 radiator it was only 25 1/4 across the core. my radiator is 26 across. has anyone mounted the lt1 fans to there third gen radiator? if so how did you mount yours? i will take some pics to show how i did mine. just curious if anyone has done this.

boy what a pita. made some brackets to hold it to the radiator. had to cut some off one of the fans to get it to fit next to the gearbox. then had to space the fan motor in to clear it. then trimmed the upper rad cover. other than that it turned out perfect. these also move a ton of air compared to my little factory single fan.

I think most just use the dual fans that came on the third gens. Makes life a whole lot easier.

What did u cut exactly to clear the gear box? I got a set of 97 fans, but I may just use a fourthgen radiator when I do the fans.

Looks good man, its been a mod ive been debating...

factory dual fans are terrible, why gm never used a shroud is beyond me!

Luckily, my formula runs 180 in damn near any outside temp! so ive been kinda putting it off, i may do it if i have any heat issues with my new turbo setup

Re: lt1 fans--installed on third gen radiator complete!!!!!

The fan that is controlled by the computer froze up on me so now I only have one fan. When I was at the junkyard There were no TPI cars but a bunch of V6 Fourthgens. I was thinking about getting the shroud and fans from a fourthgen.

Were the brackets really hard to make? Should I do what you did or just go and buy a set of aftermarket fans?

i have a set on my car, but i also have an LT1 and LT1 radiator. i had to trim around the gear box as well. i wired mine up using Nelson Performance's 3-relay wiring harness made for putting the fans in a truck. i re-wired it to switch on with the grounds instead of powers so the computer turns them on. always works and with a 160 stat, the car never really goes above 175.

Re: lt1 fans--installed on third gen radiator complete!!!!!

I have LS1 fans. I didnt have to trim them to clear the gear box I did trim them to slide into place. I put angled aluminum and riveted it to the top of the fan assy. Then slide that into the top lip of radiator. On the bottom I drilled 2 holes in the body. Slid bolts thru the fan assy thru the holes and nut on the bottom to tighten down and hold in place. works like a champ. just wired in another connector for fan inline with stock connector.
