water pump replacement

Engine: 305 TBI (L03)
Transmission: THM-700R4
Axle/Gears: GM 10 Bolt
water pump replacement

ok so the seals are starting to leak on my 90 305 and i have never replaced a WP b4 in a SBC looks like the easyest thing in the world just wondering if its as easy as it looks? also is the 305 a reverse rotation pump?

Replacement is as easy as it looks. Your 90 should have a serp system, which has a reverse rotation pump.

make sure you clean the gasket surface real good and use gasket sealant.

will do I have a small tube laying around somewere unopen I am gonan put a new hose on as well i just replaced the top hose like 3 months ago it but I have no clue when the bottom was last replaced

Make sure the surfaces are clean, but don't use any sealant. Put the gaskets on dry.

I put them on dry as well. I did, however, use thread sealant on the bolts--just in case.

When you take the old pump off if you get a stubborn bolt,don't force it because you might snap it off.

When you back the bolt out if it starts giving you trouble,reverse the ratchet and start screwing the bolt back in a little,l just a few turns till it's easy then back it out a few turns then back in a few turns.

It you take your time you'll be less likely to have a bolt break on you while trying to take the old water pump out.

I always put a thin smear of sealant on the gasket
but not too much or loose bits will get in cooling system
