help with new water pump

Just received my new stewart stage 2 water pump today. I do have a few questions. There is a hole at the top which looks like i am going to have to block, what is that used for, and where can I pick up a plug that will block that. My second question is, my crank pulley is 6 inchs, what size and possible parts numbers would I be looking for, as for a water pump pulley any help and parts numbers would be appreciated, thanks

Re: help with new water pump

The port is for a heater hose connection on cars with different plumbing. You can get a pipe plug for it at any hardware or parts store.

What's wrong with the pulley from your old water pump?

Re: help with new water pump

The hole is a simply 3/8 NPT hole (or was it 1/2"? Forgot, it's either of those) so you can plug it with an NPT plug.

Why not simply get an OEM WP pulley? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-10055880/

10055880 Water pump pulley is part of the over the counter GMPP serpentine kit (same as stock)

Re: help with new water pump

Since my crank pulley is 6 inches would a stock water pump pulley be able to turn the water pump enough to cool my motor?

Re: help with new water pump

what style of belt system are you running?
if it's original serpentine, original W/P pulley should work
good, but will give slight underdrive of W/P with the 6"
crank pulley, will reduce high rpm horsepower usage,
but may result in slow circulation at idle if you have
near-stock idle speed.
I do not like cheap, imported, cast aluminum pulleys as
those wear fast! good,u.s. made ,billet, anodized, pulleys
should last good.

Re: help with new water pump

its the original serpentine setup. Was looking at the march pulley 4012. I just don't want to go through all this work and find out its not cooling enough. Like I said my crank pulley is 6 inchs, If I get a water pump pulley thats the same as stock 6 1/8 inch. Would that cool enough, or should I get a pulley thats a little smaller than the crank?

Re: help with new water pump

for street use i would overdrive the water pump slightly
or use same size pulleys for 1:1 ratio.

Re: help with new water pump

so I am going to put the fitting and the pulley on tomorrow. Should I use thread lock for the fitting on top, or use more of a thread sealant?
Any help would be great
