temp keeps climbing

i have a 87 trans am and during city driving or idle the temp stays nice and cool but driving at anything above 50 the temp slowly keeps climbing and seems like it wont stop! i have to keep my fan on even at highway speeds or else the temp goes throu the roof! its topped off on coolent the rad seems to have good flow and my therm seems to work fine! i was wondering if the rad is getting enough air flow? i notice on my trans am there is no direct air flow to the rad!! should i try cutting out some spots for air to get to the rad at speeds?

If the car is overheating at highway speeds, my educated opinion would be that the AIR DAM under the front end of the car is MISSING.

That is the most important part of the cooling system on 3rd gen car.

A good place to find one.....and many of them would be at an Auto wreckers yard, and for cheap!

If you do go, KEEP the screws for the Air Dam from that yard car, just in case your screws are missing! It doesn't hurt to have extra!!!!!!

A junkyard could work. Most would probably be badly-bent, but you could probably find one or two decent-enough ones.

A GM dealer might still be able to get you a new one. Most types have been discontinued or have had part number changes, but some might still be available.

And if a dealer can't track any down, then here's a link to Hawk's. But with Hawk's, you never know... so if you order from them, don't order online assuming they have it just because they show it. Call them to confirm it--also to confirm whether it's new or used.
