can't disconnect fan harness need suggestions

So upon further inspection I discovered why there wasn't any power flowing to the relays. Apparently the Orange wire that goes in the the relay was torn as show here:

Now I remedied that situation and so I have power flowing to the orange wire as well as the brown wire. So I'm happy cause I'm thinking the problem is solved and now the fans will work. Right? Wrong!!!! So I checked the relay again using the multimeter and this time It shows that there is power going to the fan (black wire with red stripe) only there isn't any ground. Great!!!! So I pinpointed the problem and it is here:

As you can see, there IS ground on one side of this connector(V) and NO ground on the other side (X). The problem is that for the life of me I cannot disconnect this piece of crap. When I try to wiggle it loose I can see the right side kind of wants to come loose but something on the Left side (the side with the ground wire) is stuck. So maybe this is related to the problem. I'm thinking something melted inside causing this thing to stick together. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to disconnect this thing? Any suggestions would be welcomed with open arms, a warm smile, and a cold beer. lol.

If a flat blade screw driver doesn't work, I would try a hammer and a screw driver.... if it is seriously melted together, then I would cut it out and soldier it together wire by wire if u can't come across another harness.

Re: can't disconnect fan harness need suggestions

yeah I think that's what I might end up doing. The sad thing is that I ordered a wiring harness from a member on this sight but he didn't send me what he had advertised. Instead he sent me something I couldn't use. If I do end up cutting this thing where should I cut it?

thanks for the suggestion Ryan, appreciate it.

Re: can't disconnect fan harness need suggestions

Don't do that, if it is molten together, which I find hard to believe as I have an 88 iroc that had the fan running all the time due to a stuck temp switch and the connector is fine. The relay has the 12v to fan blades blue from heat, connector itself is just fine. If it is the connector, carefully crack it w/ a set of pliers and pull it apart. Then remove the pinouts w/ one of those cheap special tools and order a new connector and click the pins in there and presto, new connection. You can get those weatherpack connectors easily.
Another option would be to locate the cut side of the ground wire, it should go to the chassis in the vicinity and wire it directly to the other side of the connector or maybe use a small 1 pin connector so you can still pull it apart.

Re: can't disconnect fan harness need suggestions

Using old connectors/terminals after a failure is never a good practice...at least professionally. Years of moisture, etc build unwanted resistance on/around those terminals, so I just replace them to keep peace of mind. I don't mess around with cheap broken things, rather replace it new and not have to worry about it, or if I was tight on money, would just cut the wires and soldier it together. Screw the connector lol.

Those weatherpack connectors hardly ever have corroded terminals, they can be reused just fine. I hav done it many many times, never had a failure.

great suggestions everyone. Will get to it right now and post up pics. I have a feeling that with due diligence and some good ol' American elbow grease we will come out of this victorious just like America did today in the world cup.

Re: can't disconnect fan harness need suggestions

okay so I tried and tried but could not pry this thing loose. I used a screwdriver, pliers, and nothing happened. There is something seriously wrong in here:

So what I did was to splice into the fans ground wire directly. Here, the white wire is grounded to the cars frame

Here is where the white wire is grounded to:

you can't tell from this photo but the fans are spinning:

So, the fans turn on when I turn the car on and they stay on the whole time. the car runs too cold with both fans on so I disconnected the relay to the main fan and I only let the secondary fan on. car runs at about 180* I guess this will do until I find a way to pry that blasted connection open.

Re: can't disconnect fan harness need suggestions

new fan problem. Okay so the car ran fine after I posted this thread. The fans would come on when they were suppossed to and everything was peachy. Now, the fans don't come on until the car reaches 238*. Then they turn off at 220*. So I'm thinking it's probably the temp. switch under the car. Two questions:

1.Where on the bottom of the engine is this located and 2. when I go to the autopart store is there any specific info. I should know about the switch?

Again, thanks to everyone on this forum for all your help

Re: can't disconnect fan harness need suggestions

so i got under the car today and I pulled what i thought was the fan switch, turns out it was the knock sensor. So where in the hell is the freaking switch? does anyone have a photo of where on the engine this thing is? I know it's supposed to be between cylinder 6 and 8 but for the life of me I can't find it. even when I get under the car

Re: can't disconnect fan harness need suggestions

what's the best possible way to get to the fan switch? Cause from underneath I think I have to remove the exhaust manifold. Any suggestions?
