Air Dam: How to?
Just bought an air dam from thirdgenranch.com for my 92 RS. I looked under the front bumper and I think I know where it installs. But I have no bolts or anything to install the air dam. Also I'm not sure if I know how to install it. Does it just bolt under the radiator, or is there a certain way to install it. Because if it just bolts to the bottom of the radiator support. I don't see how people can keep them installed. There is like no ground clearance at all on it.
Picures or installation notes would be great. Thanks.

yes it bolts to the bottom of the radiator support. there should be holes there. not sure on the size of bolts. is your car lowered? and no there isnt muck ground clearance. mine is lowered only one inch in the front and i scrape coming out of my driveway.

Re: Air Dam: How to?
The reason why it works there, is that's almost right across from the wheels - evry upward bump the wheels hit lifts the car, and the air dam, with it. If it was farther in front of the wheels, then it would hit before the wheels got to the bump.

i live in south jersey where our tax money goes into our governors pocket rather than roads...i made the mistake of instead of swirving around a manhole cover , i stradled it and said bye bye to mine ... i fabbed up one out od sheet aluminum and have it swept back slightly , it still scapes time to time but it never get caught on stuff plus i can just bend it back if it takes a hit....stock ride height as well

I'm going to be installing it today, so I will figure out the bolt size and post it up for future reference. I have one bolt still under the car, so I'll just match it up at the auto parts store.

Wow - are you guys 4-wheeling? I'm lowered 1 inch and my air dam never hits anything. It's the bulbous plastic filler piece between the chin spoiler and the front crossbrace on my car that always drags the driveway unless I attck it at an angle.
Keep it between the lines fellas!

Re: Air Dam: How to?
Air dam is installed and it made a 100% difference, the car never breaks 190* going down the road now. But the second I backed out of my driveway I scrapped it a bit haha, gonna have to be real careful with this installed...

Attack the driveway at an angle, 45 degree if possible - reduces scrapes alot! I attack all bumps at an angle like that (driveways, speedbumps, etc.)

Re: Air Dam: How to?
I know the 45 degree angle trick very well when I used to own a slammed Civic. But my driveway SUCKS, there is a light pole less than half a foot way from it to the right, and a 7inch curb that start immediately to the left of it. It is nearly impossible to get in my narrow *** driveway at an angle, it sucks I can't wait to move by this August.

Re: Air Dam: How to?
Hello. My 84 z28 was purchased from the previous owner without an air dam. I am now understanding how important it is. I located one in a junk yard for $20. It's 3 pieces. Came off an 85 camaro. Now, I'm not sure if my gauge is accurate, but I never read any higher than 220. And that's when sitting in traffic. It usually reads a little over the first mark after 100. Sending unit perhaps? But anyway. Ive been having a problem with heat soak/vapor lock. Carb and manifold still hot after sitting several hours. Hard to start when hot. Could lack of an air dam be my answer?

Steve30, check the link above for the air dam on my 85, single piece. I don't believe Camaros were ever equipped with a three-piece dam (at least none that I've seen, but I haven't seen them all).

Thanks James. That's what I thought it should look like. I haven't actually seen it yet but the junkyard said its a 3 piece. Who knows. All I do known is that I need it

Re: Air Dam: How to?
Check ebay I've seen some on there that were 3 piece with pictures. The 3 piece ones look nice but I believe the bolt holes are different.
I'm running the plain camaro one on my formula. I had to drill it to fit but it works. I blame the dealership they ordered the wrong one for my father then wanted a restocking fee to return it for the right one.

Re: Air Dam: How to?
I've often though it would work ALOT better than the factory's rigid plastic, or metal like I've seen some people on here attempt to use, to take a piece of about 1½" angle something (either aluminum or iron would work) of a suitable length to go across there, and cut a strip of flexible but not floppy material of some sort (18-wheeler mud flaps should be just about perfect) of a suitable width, and make one that way. Something like that would not tear up hitting the ground, be easy to replace if it did, and be CHEEEEEEEEP. Never have got around to it though, my factory one is still hanging on ... just barely.

Re: Air Dam: How to?
Thanks for the info guys. Picked it up today. It's actually 1 piece that is jointed in the middle. It runs the width of the front end and bolts up on the sides via square pieces. Seems like it will fit. Once I get the dang pressed in plastic screws out that are holding in the pieces the previous owner didnt cut out. Not only did he get rid of an important part, he did quite a hackjob In the process. Ugh...
