overheating/airdam/cooling rebuild
Ok, I've posted like 4 times this last week about all my cooling issues with my 91 RS 305 tbi and i truely appreciate all the help from everyone. for anyone that hasn't heard my story, the short version is I have lots of cooling problems and my radiator blew and im planning on doing a full cooling system rebuild. Here's my plan after my next paycheck. Just let me know if im leaving anything out.
1. flush the entire cooling system. Get everything out of the motor and radiator. even air.
2. install new radiator $150-$200
3. install new thermostat $17
4. install new waterpump $20
5. Airdam!?!? -need help with where to find one and how easy are they to install?!- but I want that taken care of.
6. Install new fan motor.
And I should be all set..? Right..??

Re: overheating/airdam/cooling rebuild
If the water pump & fan are working, I would not replace them. However: you forgot about your hoses. The air dam should be easy to locate and install. The mounting hardware should still be on the car. The airdam was standard on all 3rd gen cars and the most important item for cooling system.

Re: overheating/airdam/cooling rebuild
this is a sloppy picture but it doesnt appear I have an airdam as i can see all the way down the ways of my car without anything that looks similar to an airdam blocking the way.
Maybe the previous owner removed it? Maybe it fell off?
How do I go about finding one? and it looks like installation wouldn't be an issue at all so i wont worry about that.

Re: overheating/airdam/cooling rebuild
You probably only needed to do step 5 in the first place, these cars have no grille, how else does it get fresh air? you think the fan is gonna do it all on its own.
probably spent money not needed.

Not knowing where you are located or whether you are in to looking at and crawling around the Junk yard, here's what it looks like and one possible source. May be one closer to you?

Re: overheating/airdam/cooling rebuild
rebuilding the cooling system is fine. get a new airdam or a good used one. on the water pump something you might want to check. i have a 1992 rs tbi. replaced the water pump with the regular water pumps from 3 different manufacturers. the belt squeaked. it drove me nuts for a while since it was sort of centered. i also had a smaller squeak before i replaced mine. i finally began measuring the belt difference between pullies. 1/16. i ended up going with a gmpp water pump and it measured perfect. no more squeaks.

An airdam is a bid deal, when I explored a front spoiler, even though it was half open, very first thing my temps went right to the moon as it blocked the air, to the airdam. The spoiler came right off.
