thermostat is not under radiator cap . follow upper radiator hose to engine . the metal part the hose connects to is the thermostat housing . remove the 2 bolts and remove it . there is the thermostat . good luck .

Re: how do i replace t-stat housing???
It doesn't go under the radiator cap. It goes under the water outlet on top of the intake. 2 bolts (can be 1 bolt & 1 stud with a nut on it) hold that down, but on TPI the throttle body make is a little harder to reach than on a carb'd or TBI car.
If the bolt and/or the stud break off? You are in a world of hurt trying to get the broken part out. Trust me on that.....

Re: how do i replace t-stat housing???
Thermostat is in the intake not the radiator. Follow the upper hose coming out of the radiator to the intake. You should see 2 bolts on the metal housing bolted to the intake. You loosen those bolts and the housing will pop loose. The gasket goes between the intake and that housing. The thermostat sits under that housing on a recessed lip. You'll lose some coolant. You can either drain some out of the radiator on the lower corner using the valve or you can use a towel to soak it up. Make sure you replace the coolant with pre-mixed or 50/50 water to pure antifreeze.

On a TPI car, it's alot easier to remove the TB to give you plenty of room to get to the housing....It's only a few extra minutes to remove the TB, and saves you alot of headaches...........

I've done it without removing the throttle body. IMO it's just one more thing to worry about. Especially since this is a 700r4 car.

Also I didnt see a thermostat gasket in your pic, make sure you have a replacement before you begin.
