Mounting of a CSR Electric Water Pump

I have a CSR Electric Water Pump.

Ideally I would like to not have to buy the March Performance SBC Electric Water Pump Kit. As I am poor...

Is there an alternative to their kit?

I do not have the Original Serpentine Brackets for the Vehicle, but would purchase them if they will work. I will not be running a Smog Pump, A/C.

I have done a search, but all I found was Jibberish on Electric Water Pumps VS Mechanical Water Pumps...

Re: Mounting of a CSR Electric Water Pump

I ended up using the March kit since I couldnt really find anything else to work. I had to keep an eye on where things were mounted due to the turbos under hood but still didnt see any other options out there. It was a disappointment to say the least.

Hopefully others will chime in. I'm curious on this too

Re: Mounting of a CSR Electric Water Pump

Well, I really need to get my car running...

It needs a formal tuning to finally run.

The Original plan was to go with: March Performance SBC Electric Water Pump Kit.

I was hoping there was an other option as I didn't have the money for it.

Doesn't look like it...

In order to get to get the car running I decided to grab an Alternator Only Kit. (Part #22015) The only problem with this kit is the Crank Pulley only has grooves for the Alternator, so if I choose to run a Power Steering Pump later I will need to purchase a different Crank Pulley. I had to purchase all the items separately, but I actually saved $6.36 not too bad..

Parts Ship out Tomorrow.

Re: Mounting of a CSR Electric Water Pump

Looks good but that black powder coated stuff will rub off when torque the bolts down and have gasket material stuck to the other side. Mine wore off pretty good when I took it apart and cleaned it up to install a new motor.

I now need a new pump motor. I guess after sitting all winter with no water in it, it either corroded stuck or just died.... not happy with CSR right now. Luckily I have my backup motor ready.

Re: Mounting of a CSR Electric Water Pump

Powder Coated huh, I thought it was Anodized. Well I used the supplied gasket with no Adhesive and was afraid it was going to leak. Happy to say, No Leaks! I'll post some photo's of the completed setup. Thanks.

Hey Ore89RocZ

What size and brand belt did you use?
I'm using a 38.5" Duralast Five Rib from the AutoZone. I need a Six Rib but that was only available in 39"

Thanks

Re: Mounting of a CSR Electric Water Pump

It looks powdercoated on the brackets but maybe it is annodized. I believe the red pump color I have is annodized...either way it flaked off with the bolts being torqued down.

Re: Mounting of a CSR Electric Water Pump

I had it on for a good 2 years before tearing it apart to do my new build. Found out my cooling system has some rust in it... must have had air in there and it got to the metal lining of the coolant hoses..its rusted pretty good and I'll have to do a full flush and replace some things.. The pump due to sitting for 6 months had corroded abit. I cleaned it out and it runs but makes alot of noise now.... So i gotta clean it out real good or replace it and hope it works. I may just go conventional pump to save the hassle.

Re: Mounting of a CSR Electric Water Pump

yep, missed it.

I have a 40.5" and 38.5". the part numbers and lengths the instructions give you are NOT correct. Few trips to the store to get belts. Dont recall the brand but its a pepboys special, whatever they sell. 5 rib on the power steering, 6 rib on the alternator

Re: Mounting of a CSR Electric Water Pump

I had universal flex hose from advanced autoparts.... they are a rubber coolant hose with a metal spiral coil in side to give it rigidity and flex shape. When I ran pure water, it got rusted and all that stuff when thru my cooling system and found its way in the electric pump, causing it to fail I'm now running 50/50 antifreeze/water

Re: Mounting of a CSR Electric Water Pump

A universal flex hose from Advanced Auto huh...

Sounds like a disaster!

Well, I'm using a universal flex hose from AutoZone. This is horrible. I had a hard time finding a hose that would fit the outlet extention of the CSR Water Pump while at the same time fitting the radiator outlet...

Can I see a picture of your lower radiator hose?

Mine is rubbing against a bolt. Let me snap a photo...

You didn't have trouble finding a hose with the same inlet size of the Water Pump and the Outlet of the Radiator?
