Runningt a 180 T-stat okay?
Hello, i just installed at 180* mr gasket perf. t stat in my 88 camaro. Now, I was concerned about open loop and closed loop problems after reading topics. Will I have to worry about it with a 180* t stat?
Also, don't worry I have a adjustable fan switch with a manual over ride so i can control if i want to.
Should I just return it and go for the 195 t stat?

should be fine-only 15* difference and should be in
closed loop before 180 anyway.

computer is forced into closed loop after 190 seconds run time, unless certain cel's are set. thermostat rating won't matter.

not sure if you let it run long enough or not, but it definitely is set to go into closed loop on a timer. the min temp for closed loop is 109*F which should be easy enough even without any thermostat at all. but i was mistaken on the actual time, its 190 seconds, not 90 seconds, which i believe overides the actual temperature.

[QUOTE=TTOP350;5256239]You need to post this info on the threads when people say that a 160* T-stat will keep their car in open loop...
QUOTE]
My upper radiator hose is leaking a few drops out by the housing dripping onto the harmonic balancer. I re-placed the clamp, but it still will drip a little. So I'm going to change the T-stat, maybe its not opening all the way.
I was thinking of putting a 160* T-stat in, now after reading what you wrote is that a good idea? What temp T-stat is good to run? 160, 180, or 190? I have a 305 TPI.

If its leaking out of the hose you may have corrosion between the housing and hose. A t-stat doesnt really cause leaks.
If you want to run a cooler t-stat, you have to make the fans run properly for the temp.

How do I change the fans to run properly if I'm using a cooler t-stat?

Hypertech has 2 fan switches, 1 for 180 an 1 for 160s. Do a google search for them.
