Coolant Sender 88 5.0 - What Am I Missing? Pics Inside
I have no temperature reading on the digi dash on my 88 t/a 5.0 tpi. I just bought the car and am trying to find out why. I don't think the car is overheating, but would love to have the gauge working to verify this.
I have included a few pics of what I think is the coolant temperature sender as well as the wiring harness I assume should be hooked to it. I'm just not sure what parts or piece I need to make the connection. I called autozone and they told me to call the dealer...but I'm not sure what I should be asking for.
Here is a link to the album with the pictures - http://imgur.com/a/o2ejC
Thanks!

the wire is laying right there if the plastic piece is broke use a ACDelco 6288704

In referencing pictures I'm seeing online it looks like the coolant sender that is in the block now is missing the plastic connector to connect to the dangling pigtail near the sender
Does the sender simply just screw out using the appropriate socket, essentially like changing a spark plug? Will coolant come flying out when I remove/replace the sender?

But now referencing genuine gm parts such as
http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-213-80.../dp/B000C9L7DI
shows the sending unit that looks identical to mine, it's being called a "collar button type". How do I get the pigtail connector to latch onto the "collar button" of the sender? I was expecting to see a plastic clip on the end of the sending unit, is there another part that connects the pigtail to something that can hook onto the sending unit itself?
I'm lost and all mechanics in my area say it'll be at least a week before they can have a look.

rock auto.com shows 213-4793 or D1885, you might contact a dealer for the correct number, the harness you have dangling attaches 90 angle and slides onto the sender.

yes coolant will come out when removed, do while the engine is cold. have you tried reconnecting the wire it in the picture you showed.

thx for the reply tuned, i've been trying to get the harness to connect to the sender but I think the wrong sender may be in the car. Instead of having a nice flat stub to connect to there's a round "nail head" type connector on the sender now - or am I truly that hopeless and there is a way to get the connector to attach to the nail head on my sender?

it might be a tension issue on the connector to slide onto the nail head coolant sending unit. or use PICO 5665PT
