mechanical fan or electric fan please help!
hey guys i have a 85 z28 camaro with a aftermarket 350 in it, 3 speed th350 and 373 gears. when i first got the car is was overing heating, figured out the fans we'rent turning on. my buddy had a fan at the shop that was used in his nova its rated at 2800 cfm. i haved the fan wired to when i turn on the car which i love. car never over heats now but it does run a little hot on hot summer days. i also removed the thermostat, right now that its winter and if its under 50 out the car runs about 140 to 150.
now my question is over the summer that just pasted the car on hot summer days would run around 210 on city streets and 220 or so high way. its a little to hot for my liking lol now someone mentioned to me yesterday that a mechanical fan would be better for me? is this tru. i have one on my bronco and it stays at a nice temp. i was just wondering if i made the switch if it would help me run cooler in the summer

Re: mechanical fan or electric fan please help!
it might run cooler with a mechanical fan-those can pull more air than any 12v electric fan at above idle RPM.The 2800 CFM electric fan should be able cool well at idle though-if it is actually delivering 2800 CFM(blade pitched right for airflow direction,ETC)If the mechanical fan is a clutch type in good working order, horsepower draw will be nil-non clutch types can pull a few HP at higher RPM while blasting a huge amount of air through the radiator. If you keep the electric fan, should be thermostat controlled so it is not pulling current off the alternator when the fan isn;t really needed.

If it's OK at idle and only get hots at speed I would suspect the air-dam under the front of the car. This deflector is critical for cooling.
