New Water Pump, still overheating.

My car was running hot, over 200 unless the heat was blasted all the way and then it would be at 200.

I noticed coolant leaking from the middle part of the water pump and going down that main hose.

I changed the water pump, it all seemed to go well. No leaking from it etc.

But the car still runs hot.

When we disconnected the hoses the coolant was disgusting, was a solid brown. The picture is misleading cause all the gunk sunk to the bottom over night.

What do you guys think the cooling problem could be?

The thermostat looks like it has a new seal, think it could be clogged up somewhere?

Thanks.

Flush the cooling system, a couple times.

Then do a pressure test.

when did it run hot?
at idle?
when going down the road?
are the fans working?
is the whole radiator warm?
is there pressure in the cooling system?
where is the timing set?
is the timing chain worn out?

I drove it this morning, it just warms up like usual and never stop heating up.

Would get past 220 and would slowly keep going up, it didn't seem like it was running any differently.

I replaced the water pump like I said, it seemed like the gaskets and seal was on good. No leaking like before.

Now when I unconnected the hoses the coolant that sprayed out was literally brown, looked like ****. I had my mechanics flush the coolant before and they said that did it multiple times and it still looked like ****. Was literally **** brown.

Im not exactly even certain where the thermostat is, assuming where the top hose goes. It looks kinda new and the seal looks good.

The coolant reservoir lid is kinda loose, it looks like a small amount might go there but there is still a good amount of coolant in there.

Feel like I'm rambling but just listing some stuff but some help would be appreciated.

How does checking the pressure of the cooling system go? Im afraid that there is a clog somewhere like the ac condenser.

Thanks guys.

Ac condensor has nothing to do with it.

You need to flush the cooling system, keep flushing it untill its clean.

Then go to auto zone and rent a pressure tester. Its very simple to use.

Buy a repair manual if you don't have one already.

Don't you just spray say water throughout the radiator and it flushes?

Gotta flush the whole system, not just the radiator.

They sell stuff to put in to hlpe break the stuff down. Go to autozone and buy a bottle of radiator flush, and follow the instructions.

Great!

The thermostat is at the end of the upper hose.

Flush Flush Flush!!!! Before changing any parts. You may solve your issues just by getting all the crap out.

Re: New Water Pump, still overheating.

I chased a cooling problem a while back.
New - radiator, fans, water pump, hoses, and thermostat.
All that did not fix the problem. The last thing I tried - fixed the problem...
I replaced the worn and tired air dam with one I custom built.

Re: New Water Pump, still overheating.

You probably have a partially plugged radiator from all the debris in your cooling system.

You could also have a thermostat thats stuck closed, or fans that arent coming on.

Do like Johnny said, flush it out and pressure test it. Make sure you arent leaking coolant first

Re: New Water Pump, still overheating.

So I looked at my car today, noticed that one fan wasnt moving.

Question is replace the fan or the fan motor?

The coolant seems clean now and no leaking.

Noticed that the drive home tonight didnt overheat really, think it did today because of the heat and it was much more cool tonight.

One fan doesn't work. Try turning on the ac on while its running. The both fans should turn on.

Not heat. AC. the cold stuff. One fan is ac triggered/ecm triggered.
