First time on a long trip yesterday. As i got up to freeway speeds(65+) I noticed my temp slowly increasing. To the point where I hit 260 and I pulled over and opened the hood. The temp quickly came back down, but once I got back on the freeway, it only took 5 minutes to climb back up to 250 from 210.
It got so hot, that my exhaust heated up my gas in my tank to the point of boiling. I think I almost died on a rolling bomb!
So I guess I'm not getting enough air through while at speed, but not sure what to do. No money for an aluminum radiator.
A while ago I thought about making the fake air scoops on top real, and now I think it will need to be done.
could be the lower radiator hose sucking flat and restricting coolant flow at highway rpm,but much more likely a missing airdam or a damaged airdam that is folding back at speed is the cause.A bad thermostat that does not open far enough is another possibility.
That is it then. It is a flexible piece of black plastic underneath the car that deflects air up into the radiator. Search air dam on this site you will find a pic.

So I looked up pics for it on google, as I didn't find any on this site. Yup. Not there. So that much be it. It looks so flimsy though. Should I make a stronger one with more of a dam than a flap?
yup, without it....you blow up. Fans are only good till you reach around 35mph, then the're moot/useless. The deflector deflects air and causes a negative air flow and flows up to the radiator, then through it. Without it, air flows right under the car and out the rear, never reaching the radiator
