Water pump studs

ok so i am replacing my water pump on my 1988 2.8 mpfi firebird. Also the Bolts or studs that are torx are going to be replaced with Hex studs for the pump. Would anyone know if these would work as replacements? If not where i could get replacement studs.

Why not reuse the originals? If you must replace them any competent parts guy should be able to match them up for you.

Re: Water pump studs

Take a stock one to any hardware store, tractor supply, or home improvement store and go find the hardware/screws/bolts... Most will have a thread gauge sitting out to check your thread dia. and pitch. Find what yours is, then look for that size bolt and buy as needed.

Right the actual water pump bolts. There are 11 in total 4 t50 torx 4 medium length ( not sure ) torx 30 and 4 small length torx 30 screws just like in that kit at orileys ( even though not compat) . I will check the hardware stores. Was just looking for a kit. I would reuse the originals but 4 were seized and i burned the heads of the bolts off and pulled the pump off. Just trying to find replacements.

Re: Water pump studs

the engine in question is a 2.8 V6, not a 305 or 350 V8... but i'm sure ARP makes some overpriced bolts that can be made to work with that, too..

i'd just hit a junkyard and find the bolts in an S10 or something..

Yeah i was thinking the same thing. The problem with mine is 4 of the bolts were stripped. So i melted the heads off pulled the water pump off and used a stud remover by lysle and removed 3, and broke remaining one. Now i have to pull off the harmonic balancer and the timing plate to finish removing the remaining bolt. What was supposed to be routine turned into a PITA !

Re: Water pump studs

If you still need the bolts and ok with used ones. I have a 3.1 sitting out here now. I can pull the bolts for you. $1 each for the bolts + shipping
