Re: I need an empty R12 bottle

Let me see if I can make this clear for you... I don't need R12, I need the bottle it comes in. you know, the bottle is about the size of a back yard grill propane tank, say 20 pounds. get it now?

Guys , I've seen WAY bigger misunderstandings than this on chat forums and I try to never blame folks for those misunderstandings . The OP was very plain and clear with his "I need an empty R12 bottle" and the second poster saw "bottle" but his mind instantly translated that to "can" . No biggie and no reason to go calling each other Buttholez . In the HVAC business the 15 or 20 pound size container is normally referred to as a bottle and the reference to "cans" is almost exclusively automotive since HVAC work never uses the little one pound cans like our cars do .

Ok , so shake hands and bury the hatchet (preferably NOT in each other's Skull)

So MY big question to the OP is , by what method will you get the Freon from bottle A to bottle B ? Don't you need at the minimum some kind of specialized pump of the sort found in those "refrigerant recovery units" you see at places that work on car A/C ?

Re: I need an empty R12 bottle

you don't need a pump, necessarily but I have access to one. I can just let the cylinder that it's in right now get hot in the sunshine and put the bottle in cold water or ice and the r12 will flow that way. now, do you have the bottle I'm looking for?

Re: I need an empty R12 bottle

Third Gen dot Org isn't the only source for 30lb. R12 bottles/tanks. What's preventing you from just ordering one from a retailer? Is it the tank valving? Cost?

http://www.nationaltoolwarehouse.com...bs-P28792.aspx

The price of this new one is comparable to many used ones on eBay and elsewhere.

No recommendations.

Do a Google/Bing/Yahoo search for an empty, 30lb. R12 tank. You'll probably want a new one. No telling what was in a used one. How about Amazon?

Beyond the rare pissing contests, this is a predominantly DIY site. You ask, we suggest and you decide what's the best course of action for yourself.

It''s becoming clear to me that you seem to be a bit intellectually challenged so I'll just let it go there and move on. I suggest you do to.

A few weeks ago someone on the site was wondering how to change their speedometer from cable driven to electronic. I had done exactly that two months before so I was able to let him know exactly what parts to get to make it work without worrying about changing the transmission drive/driven gears. I even copied the links to the reply to make it easier.
So while this is a DIY site, most folks seem to suggest specific parts or vendors to help others accomplish their goals rather than vague suggestions. And thank you, yes, when I receive some specific information that helps me with my goal, I'll take it.

I suspect because R-12 was used on these vehicles, and most larger shops used the cylinders/tanks rather than the small DIY cans.
