Thermostat Housing plug/connection

I drive an 85 z28 camaro 5.0L carburated and was going to change the thermostat housing unit but noticed there was a connection connected to it and the new thermostat housing i got at autozone didnt have one. The connection seems to be leading into the car but no where near the engine. Was wondering what that line was/does and do i need to have it or can i just remove it? Thank you in advance.

Re: Thermostat Housing plug/connection

Yours should look like GT's pics, and should have those same things in it.

The vacuum switch is the EFE TVS... controls the flap in the exhaust on the pass side at the junction of the manifold to the Y-pipe.

Re: Thermostat Housing plug/connection

Depends you can add headers and you don't need it or you can wire it open, as for the other one unless you have the electronic carb you don't need it either.

hi I have a question about the electronic carb. I have a 1984 Camaro F 41 suspensions and I installed a buck four barrel carburetor with an electronic choke is my carburetor supposed to be attached to this vent port?

Re: Thermostat Housing plug/connection

Plug all those holes on the therm housing. Remove all the TVS units & reconnect the hoses directly to the carb.
That is what I did on my '84 Trans AM. Easy to do. I also removed the butterfly from the heat riser as it had started to seize.
The purpose of the TVS is to stop all vacuum to the engine until the block warms.

Doesn't it also control the EGR as well?...

Re: Thermostat Housing plug/connection

I removed the egr valve (it had failed). Initially after I purchased the car, I place a small ball bearing in its vacuum so that the car would idle. But I made a cover from thin steel to replace the egr valve & purchased a gasket (actually several in a package) and mounted it onto the intake. Could probably send u a gasket if u want one.

okay cool, so I can essentially unplug it and remove the wires from the one that can support two vacuum hoses. and the thermostat sensor switch is unnecessary right? So I can plate it off or something

U can. Do the removals one line at a time because the vacuum ports on the carb are specific to a certain to tvs. And remove the butterfly from the heat riser.

okay got it would there happen to be a forum on this, by chance. Also I’m thinking about getting rid of the ecu. I just need to figure out what are the benefits to doing so. And would I have to buy more stuff in replace of it. I need my lights and music lol. Or would I have to wire my own dedicated harnesses for the accessories in the vehicle.

Re: Thermostat Housing plug/connection

For the heat riser, I removed the butterfly + shaft completely & replaced with a bolt & nut.
If u have a carb or replace the FI with a carb, the why would u require an ECU?

ECM has nothing to do with lights or accessories. It controls the ignition timing, the air/fuel ratio, the torque converter lock-up (if auto trans), and emission controls...
