Replacing thermostat...

First time doing this and have a few questions. In the included photo what are the two protrusions (switches?). I traced a wire from the two blades one at the top right back to a relay to the fan, so I’m assuming that’s the thermo switch for the fan however the replacement thermo switch I have only has one blade. I’m putting in a 170 degree thermostat in according to the sticky note for a “predominantly warm climate.” Since I live in Los Angeles. Housing also seems pretty rusty so I’m assuming I should replace it at some point too.
