yes, you must completely clean all residual R12 AND oil if you are doing a conversion. if you do not, you will not have optimum results and it may fail, possibly causing compressor to blow up.
Did a lot of research on this a while back and concluded that 50% of the reason people complain that r134a is not good is due to improper use. here are some links. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...ml#post6243605
You don't have Harbor Freight out there? Not sure what Amazon charges for the kit, and I'm too lazy to go look, but you can get a set of gauges and a vacuum pump, that likely come from the same factory, at Harbor Freight.
Looks about right, you need a gauge/manifold set, vacuum pump, and a can tap. The T-style screw in can taps are OK, I've had mine for 20 some odd years and used it too many times to recall, but I really prefer the clamp on style that punches the side of the can - they leak less. Not to mention the clamp on side tapper don't care what the can is... It'll punch a hole in a can of R12, R134a, air duster, spray paint, WD40, it... Don't... Care...

FYI - Just because the compressor comes pre-serviced with oil does not mean you are good to go.
The system requires a specific amount of oil (total system capacity) and when you replace an entire system the amount of oil
that comes in the new compressor may not be enough.
Called them and was told compressor comes with all the oil needed.
Finished the install and went to hook up the vacuum pump but the quick connectors supplied with the Kozyvacu kit don't fit on the 134A adapters supplied with the Original Air kit.
Want to get the correct quick connect fittings but unsure which one I need.
Talked to the tech support.
Guy named Curtis,worthless conversation.
Kept telling me that I was trying to hook the quick connect to the wrong port. That the port was on the back of the compressor.
Wouldn't listen when I told him that he was referring to a different system,I asked him to pull up the installation instructions from his site so I could correct him on the system in my car.He told me he knows what he's talking about and that I was wrong.
He liked telling me I was wrong, multiple times, and refused to listen to me.
I was shocked at the combative attitude he had.
I told him to have a nice day and hung up on him.
Worst tech. support I ever had.
So not knowing why the quick connect wouldn't fit,I ordered a new set of quick connects.
Same issue.
I figured out that the 134a adapter they sent was to big to fit into the connector so I filed it down.
Now it fits.
This is after I found, during the install, one of the hoses that they sent didn't have one end crimped at the factory.
I called the sales dept. and they apologized and said they would send a replacement only after I sent photo's.
They took 2 days to ship and sent it the cheapest, slowest way.Took a week to get.
Open the box to find the wrong hose, call back and I'm told "it's only one part number off"(with a nasty tone) and that they will send the correct one.
I told him I wasn't happy with how they handled and shipped the last replacement and to ship in out immediately and send it overnight.
I'm ready to charge the system and hoping to not have anymore issue's.
Wow, not good to hear about Classic Air - all the difficulties you've encountered makes me think I dont want to use
their product - I hope it works out for you in the end
Not sure why anyone needs an aftermarket conversion... If you can get the system to seal up, the stock R4 compressor based system works great with canned air duster. Some people even have reasonably good luck using 134A. Yeah, an aftermarket modern compressor is nice, but it doesn't fit that well and it sounds like it's a pita to deal with the vendors and kits.
I think once I get the this all sorted it will be very good.
Fit is good.
Will take some pics soon.
Waiting for some time when it's at least 70* to charge system.
So my struggle is I have an 85 camaro. Guess in order to reorient the compressor I would have to change brackets and move accessories on the engine. Thanks for the info big blck.
