Hey guys looking to delete this hose. Was wondering if its possible and if so, how can I? Its a 89 305 tbi. Will also be installing an Edelbrock performer intake manifold and was wondering if that would have anything to do with it? Sorry there is probably already a thread or post on this i just find this website so hard to use. Thanks in advance guys!
Ok so thats what it is. I just wanna clean up the engine bay, get it from on top of my valve covers. Ive deleted a/c. Is there any way to re-route the hose to clean up the look?
I thought that was the diverter valve for the heater core. With the AC on the valve wouldn't let the hot coolant to go to the Heater core and potentially warming up the air. You can delete it, The larger diameter hose gets ran to the water pump and the smaller to the top of the intake manifold by the thermostat.
People still delete A/C? What is this the 1940's? A/C is easy to fix and it's ****ing awesome. But if you want to sweat like a caveman or something, cap the hose coming off the hardline, and connect a short hose from the port on the back of the intake to the heater core. Find a safe place to tuck the vacuum line from the valve so that when someday comes and someone wants A/C again, they don't have to fish a vacuum line back through the firewall.
Removing AC makes for ****ing awesome access to fix unreliable engines.
That seems a bit backwards. Make the engine reliable, don't sweat like a pig. Keep the windows up, dust out of the interior, noise out of the passenger compartment, wind from messing up you bitchin' Mull it, or your fragile headliner, keep your seats from smelling like a locker room, and the sweat stains off the rest of your interior.
AC delete is a crutch. But hey, that's just me, a fat kid in a part of the country with heat and humidity months out of the year.
Challenge yourself! Delete those hoses and instead run coolant through the evaporator core! Keep those sleek, lightweight aluminium hard lines and evaporator core and delete the heavy rubber and copper heater core instead!
Guarantee you'll love it. This is not a guarantee.
Results may vary, batteries not included, don't try this at home. Not responsible for burning down your mothers Hacienda.
In all seriousness though - Agree with Drew - AC delete is a fail. The AC system doesn't weigh much. Mostly aluminium. And it's really simple, easy to convert to R134, etc. The R5 compressors are absolutely garbage. But you get a lifetime warranty "kit" from Autozone and make those jokers give you a new one every year. I do.

Hmmm, so is this a fail?
I think this looks far better than an engine bay with a big black box over 1/3-1/2 of the firewall. If it's too hot to comfortably drive the car without AC than it's too hot for me to enjoy driving the car. I drive the car when it's fun to drive the car, not when it's miserable outside. Just like I wouldn't drive the car if it's raining outside or below mid-50° outside.
To each their own of course. It looks nice. But some cars are for looking at with the hood up, and other cars are for driving with the hood down. When I'm in the pilot seat I rather prefer to not be a sweaty hog - any my dog appreciates it too. And I rarely drive with the hood up so the big black box doesn't bother me even a little.
I don't drive a "show car" - and in my experience at car shows, quite a few of them roll in on trailers. Not saying your's does, but really the whole show car thing just isn't my bag. I setup a booth at several shows a year for my shop, and I go through all the motions, etc. I even have customers cars that I built who bring them for my booth. LOL. I don't walk around and look at the "show cars" really, though. I see the stuff roll through my shop every day and it's just a sea of brightly colored chrome bits largely assembled by someone that's not even present via the owners wallet. I find it typically more than a little underwhelming myself. I'm more of the guy that wants to build the engine and do the tuning, and make the track adjustments - and I really enjoy talking to the people in my industry that actually do the work. Which is often not the owner. It's nice to look good and it's a necessary part of business marketing, etc. When building an engine bay I will do whatever the customer wants including shave it like that if that's *their* vision - it's all about the customer and what they want.
But yeah - I just like to be able to daily drive any of my personal vehicles in any weather and if it came with AC from the factory I don't tend to argue that decision later in it's life. And when customers want to gut the AC system (or "shave" the wipers for a clean firewall ) I usually try to have a conversion about the consequences..... in the end it's up to the individual.

If I only drove my car when it was comfortable to roll with the windows down, it'd be a winter beater, and a few times in the spring/fall, maybe a summer morning or late in the day. It's not even the middle of May and I know the heat is going to kick in any day now and make outdoor living miserable. I've already recharged the A/C in the daily beaters. If I were planning on driving the Formula or the Iroc anywhere anytime soon I'd already have them charged up.
3/4 of why I have lost interest in my Mustang and haven't driven it in years is the lack of A/C. It's a solid enough car with a gob of power for what it is, still can't stand it because I don't want to feel wind blown, weather-beaten and soaked with sweat when I reach my destination. If that were the goal, might as well ride a rice rocket.
The look of the engine compartment doesn't mean squat if the car is miserable to drive, and only enjoyable when the weather is perfect. Some of my best memories of enjoying my cars have been when the weather was less than ideal.

I guess I've never cared what options/equipment were in an under-hood environment, show car or not. What I care about is cleanliness, care, and presentation. As a judge, I would not vote for or against a car based on the presence or removal of the a/c system. I would vote for the one that presents better.
