Radiator/Fan Question

Just bought a champion 3 core aluminum radiator that came with 2 12inch fans. I currently have a 3.1L that I plan on LS Swapping in the future, the car is my daily driver as of now and the current radiator is full of sludge due to previous neglect. After many attempts at flushing the radiator I decided to just junk it and get this new one.

My questions are:
Would I be able to bolt up the stock single fan to this radiator? And if not what would be a good alternative?

Are those 12inch fans any good? How would I wire them up?

I know these radiators are supposed to come with a shroud but mine didn’t so I also wanted to know is the shroud necessary since mine is a v6 and not making much power.

Re: Radiator/Fan Question

i'd say yes, if you are not sitting in traffic, you can probably (probably) get by. otherwise track some down. V6 still generates as much heat. A/C on will make it worse

Re: Radiator/Fan Question

I have a stock single fan with that radiator and it works just fine. I have also just installed those same spal fans with a champion on my friends 88 the other day. you need the shroud. It should of also came with a harness kit.

Did the car seem to cool any better than before while running the stock fan with that radiator? Or did it cool better with those Chinese fans?

Re: Radiator/Fan Question

To me the spal fans move more air. The single fan gets the job done but i will probably upgrade over the winter. Ive been using stock fans with this radiator combo for a few years no no problem. highest temp i ever saw was 220

Re: Radiator/Fan Question

I’m thinking of running a 180 degree stat once it’s all installed, should run around 190 or 200

Re: Radiator/Fan Question

Please post pics of any mods that were necessary to install the unit. I’m considering a similar radiator for my swapped Iroc.
