What Brand Thermostat and How to Make the Single Electric Fan Come On Sooner

I have a 1986 Camaro IROC Z LB9 with the single electric fan.

I live in Florida and it's already 95 to 100 degrees out almost everyday and will be until October or so. I am planning on installing a 180* thermostat since my highway temps are around 200* even in the afternoon. I'm torn between ACDelco and Stant. Which one lasts longer and is overall better?

Also since I have the electric single fan which has no fan switch, is there a way to wire the fan switch to come on sooner? In mid day traffic my temps are 230* or so. Also my single fan has never come on when the AC is turned on. Is it suppose to like the dual fans or not? Is there a way to turn it on?

I run a 170 thermostat. ACDelco brand. Pretty much 99.9999% certain they are made by stant...... It's for some model of old Vette. You can google for the part number.

The fan set points are controlled by the ECU and the only way to change them is to burn a new chip.

230 is normal. That's nothing to be concerned with.

You can run the relay ground side to a sw555 temperature switch for lower on and offs but it’s much easier to have the memcal reburned. Stock 226-228f on is normal as gd said. 200f on and 185 off works well if you decide to reprogram.

I have used 180* Stats in lots of my computer controlled vehicles, for decades w/o problems. Hot enough for the emission control and heater, prolongs engine life. I'd get one of the "High Flow" models. Like Robertshaw, Motorad, milodon etc. They open about 30% wider to increase flow.

I wire my fans through a relay and they both come on when the key is on. No sensors to go bad.

Since no one burns chips for my '85 ECU, I'm thinking of getting a Stage 2 Hypertech chip, just to get the fan to turn on sooner. With the AC off, it doesn't come on until the temp goes to 220-230.

In colder weather, or at speeds above 40 MPH, the fan should not run.

Not to mention it wears out the motors.
