Radiator fan doesn’t turn on by itself
Radiator fan doesn’t turn on by itself
I have an 84z and the radiator fan doesn’t turn on unless I have the A/C on. I’ve let it sit and idle through a nail biting temp of around 240ish and got nervous and flipped on the A/C. Have done this about two times because I didn’t wanna keep letting it get that hot. Any ideas guys? Would love to not always worry about turning my A/C on (even though it doesn’t work) to have my fan turn on. Thank you.

Re: Radiator fan doesn’t turn on by itself
Usually easier from above. Just like spark plugs (it's in between 2 of them).
Unplug its wire; with the key on, ground the center pin of the pigtail, with a small piece of wire or something; the fan should turn on. If it does, the problem is the switch or the pigtail. If it doesn't it's probably the wiring. Some of the wiring, and the motor & relay, would have to be working properly for it to work with the AC, so those parts can be ruled out.

Switch was unplugged so I plugged it back in and it turns on and off by itself now. Does it at a hair above 220 but goes off and on. Alittle high for my liking but I might just leave it cause why fix something that works.

And also, the car ,as most have, has made it 36 years running at stock temps just fine. The stock head located fan switch for electric fans (v6, v8) turns on at 238°F for all years (excluding the 89 TTA iirc)
