Hayden Fan Controller Stopped Working. Any Idea Why?
I have a 1986 Camaro IROC Z TPI with the single fan and no switch. Before I had the fan controller installed, my single fan stopped working. 1986 has single fan with no switch. I replaced the fan motor, the pig tail, the relay, the relay pigtail, the CTS and the ECM (CTS and ECM where also replaced for other reasons). The single fan never worked. No one could figure out. I tried taking it to shops and they could never figure it out, either could this forum.
So I purchased a Hayden 3652 Fan controller, had a shop install it and for 3+ months it worked with no problems. Yesterday my car started getting hot in traffic, when I go home, I left the car running and popped the hood. Sure enough the fan wasn't. I replaced the 40 amp relay, drove it again and nothing. Today I checked all of the connections and the probe all are fine.
I can't figure out why it won't come on.

I've had three of those fan controllers with radiator probes and they all lasted a year or so and burned out in the nasty summer heat around here. Got tired of having to replace them and got the Jet fan switch from Summit or somewhere like that. Still going after 4-5 years

Well, I drove 5 minutes to my parents house and the fan came on. Why? I don't know.

Hard to guess. There is a fuse in a small holder you may check. I had it go out a couple of times or can get loose or damaged. Having a spare is a really good idea. I placed mine in a fairly cool location, but they generally don't like heat too much. I assumed that's why mine burned out but really have no idea. Admittedly easier to replace than the fan switch buy the Jet fan switch has lasted the longest so far. Good luck

Probably a relay in it, the contacts burned up. Now they're intermittent, at least sometimes.

Another frequent reason for intermittent functioning is poor wire connections. Loose ground wire, or metal it's grounded to not clean enough, etc. Make sure all connections are solid , no loose plugs, etc

I cleaned off the metal underneath the ground wire. It's been working fine the last two days.
