Re: Fan switch

That's not a fan switch. That's a knock sensor.

What problem are you trying to fix?

Re: Fan switch

Yes I'm sure.

Yes I know they use the same connector.

Put that knock sensor back where it came from and remove the fan switch instead. The part # you posted is a familiar one for a fan switch. Might well be "the right one". Should slap right in regardless.

Try this one simple test ;

With the engine warmed up and running, switch the (must itself be properly functioning) air conditioner to the "max AC" position with the hot/cold slider all the way on cold and with the fan switch on high. Does the radiator fan come on ? If yes, then your fan switch that your trying to replace may well be the problem. If it does NOT come on, it ain't your fan switch and you should begin doing some troubleshooting by checking for power at the fan relay. Now i'm not 100% certain this is your exact fan diagram, but it should be close enough to get you started in your diagnosis. looking at the diagram the relay's switched contact is fed constant battery power from the large gauge orange wire. When the relay is activated the large gauge black/red wire becomes live with +12V to run the fan. With a 12V automotive test light check the orange wire, is there power? If yes, with the A/C on max as described above check the black/red, if yes your fan motor has likely died. If no, check the small brown wire at the relay, has it got power? If yes, try grounding the small gauge dark green/white wire, does the fan come on? If yes you may have wiring issues and if no the relay is likely bad.

Re: Fan switch

Acoupla things thing I think both orange and I forgot to mention:

The knock sensor you have, goes into the block, just above the oil pan. Maybe an inch or so above the gasket. The fan switch is in the pass side head, between the #6 & #8 spark plugs, about 6 -7" above the KS. The fan switch wire is dark green with a white stripe, as shown on his schematic (although it's a bit fuzzy in places). The KS wire is probably black but they used acoupla different colors for it over the years..
