Factory NON-AC Box blower motor cooling hose required?

Hey guys, almost done buttoning up my LS swap into my 1986 Iroc-z here. Couple questions.

I replaced my factory fiberglass AC box with a factory Steel Non-AC Box, and an aftermarket replacement shorter-blower motor to fit the box.
Now, Is the blower motor cooling hose that comes out of the small hole in the box required?
Is this hose just to cool down the blower motor itself?
I had to install my blower motor at a different angle to line up with most of the bolts and the small dowel, now my factory hose doesn't come close to fitting. With the weird built in grommet on the end's of the hose to fit into box/motor, it's hard to find the correct hose to put inside there.
Can I leave the hole in the blower motor plugged? Can I plug the box? Am I required to find something that fits in here to make it work without burning out my blower motor? Car will only be driven 70-100* weather.... No AC, blowing warm air out of the vents on summer days to cool me down... haha
What's the best way to make this work optimal?

Thanks for the help. There is a thread or two on here with similar issue, not sure.
Attached a photo below of what I got going on.

i don't know the answer to your question, but i would definitely not leave the hole open in the blower motor. you're asking for mice or bugs to get in there.

I know from experience that if you do NOT install the hose & just leave the hole open the fan will overheat. Probably not the first time as the 1 that I left off went bad at the end of heating season ( March). The idea is your using the fan to move hot air so lets at least cool the motor a little.

yep, your thread for finding the correct hose for non-ac box is what i've been reading... however, i'm not sure if an old non-ac truck would fit because my blower motor isn't clocked the same. i would rather not waste my time at the junkyard for something that isn't even there to begin with lol
and 3037062 part number doesn't exist anymore unfortunately

Do you have the plastic end that screws to the box face? If so maybe you could use a piece of heater hose. Run the hose to the motor hole & put a grommet in that hole to hold it??

I don't unfortunately, only steel one I could find at the time on eBay was completely bare...

is the grommet side of the hose supposed to go into the blower motor? or the box itself?

If yuou want it to be nice, depending how ambitious you are feeling, you could pull the box / blower, fill the existing holes and re-clock the motor and drill new holes. If you're lucky, relocking the motor wil lcover the existing holes if that'd bother you. .

You do need that hose to help cool the motor. Grommet goes into the motor itself.

Re: Factory NON-AC Box blower motor cooling hose required?

I've never had a non-AC housing or motor where that hose would fit. It's too short and wrong shape. I have about 6 blower motors from various years. That hose fits my AC housing and motor though.

I think (guessing) the idea of the hose is to,
1. Get pressurized air to increase cooling air flow to motor.
2. Keep the smell of engine bay out of the interior. That is clean air from the cowl.

If my memory serves me, early 3rd gen blower motors weren't as powerful and didn't need the extra cooling air flow. Later on the motors got more powerful and the cooling is needed.

Is that a part number molded into the hose? If so, what is it?

The part number Drew posted in the thread I started on this topic was GM 3037062.
I’m pretty sure the website below had one but you need to email them and ask what the price is. They quoted me like $60. I took my chances going to some local junkyards and found one in an old truck.
