ALDL cable idea

Right now I have a female serial port out of my old Serial card from my PC and I am wanting to know what all I need to do to get this to where I can just plug in the 2 wires into the ALDL and then just run a normal Serial cable to my laptop running WIN95 and WINALDL.

Oh yeah It is going into a 85 T/A 305 TPI with original 870 ECM

Do I have to use one of those resitors for this APP?

Here are some pics of what I have.

You could buy a cheap code scanner and just use the end that fits into the ALDL socket.

I'm not sure about a resistor though. Sorry.
