donor options for mpfi harness for 730 ecm

Besides the 90-92 v8 tpi harnesses, what other harnesses will make good donors? I think I read that the 3.1L harnesses will work with out much repinning but obviously two more injector wiring sets need to be added. I am looking for an option that will allow me to use a 730 sd setup on my as&m BBC TPI without alot of repinning. If I have to use a v6 setup, I do not mind adding on the two injector wire sets.

is this(^) a stupid question or does it need to be in another forum?

A V6 f-body harness is a good start. A lot of folks just purchase an aftermarket harness, hence the lack of replies. I've used several 'pre-owned' GM harnesses with good results. None yet for a '730, but don't see that as an issue.

Moving from an emissions vehicle to a non-emissions vehicle there will be a bunch of wires that aren't needed. Some of these can be left in place for future enhancements. Never know what you will want to add down the road.

Thanks for the reply RBob. I have considered the sd harness that s10wildside sells on ebay. It seems like a pretty good deal for $185, but if I can take an existing harness, I think I can come out alot cheaper and possibly learn something in the process. I am not too squeamish for diy kind of stuff.

Cool. Two things to watch when choosing a pre-owned harness is 1) brittle connectors, 2) amputees. Try removing some of the connectors from devices under the hood. If the locking tabs start breaking off it is a bad sign. Means the harness has been subject to excessive heat. It is dried out and will be troublesome.

The other is where connectors have been snipped off and are missing. This happens as folks are looking for individual pieces. Too many missing ones and it adds up trying to replace them.

I then take the harness and pretty much strip is down. Re-tape and re-convolute-tubing what is required. Then use it. Around here a complete harness goes for $20US bucks (you-pull-it yard).

I pulled one out of a 4cyl corsica.
And another out of a Olds Quad 4 7749 car.
Only carbed 3rd gens in my local yards.
Had to move 2-3 pins, and install another injector wire.
Only some of the wire colors matched.
Spent more time getting rid of the extra stuff not needed in my retrofit.
Getting rid of the stock firewall pass through was short of forever though. Well about 2.5 hrs. All spent with a razor shaving off the glue used in the clamp style pass through used in that car.
But it was cheap. $25.
I pulled all the pins after labeling so I can use a smaller hole in the fire wall. But I don't spend near enough time on the mechincals. So it sits in a box waiting for the fuel system to be completed. Need to measure, but I think it's long enough to reach under the passengers' seat.

take the whole harness after you remove it from a donor vehicle and put it in a bucket with boiling water and some"super purple" or other similar cleaning agent.. that will remove all the grime and soften the glue that holds the firewall passthrough together. and it will come out looking like it was never used.. try it

Thanks for the tip. I think I might try it. Its pretty clean, but I do need to figure out how to get rid of the firewall seal.

I ended up using a 2.8 harness from an 86 camaro. I found pinouts for the computer from the 86 and followed a thread anesthes(sp?) started.

Thanks, I'll try that on the other one.
