Re: 3.1 v6 code 43
Code 43 is the ESC system, which is the knock detection and control.
A quick check is to measure the voltage at the knock sensor wire with the key-on, engine-off. With the connector removed from the sensor it should be 5 volts. Then jumper the connector to the sensor and the voltage should be about 2.5 volts. This verifies the wiring to the ECM and that most likely the sensor is OK.
If you don't get 5 volts, then either the wiring or the ECM is bad. If it doesn't change to 2.5 volts when connected to the sensor, then the sensor is bad.
The knock sensor is located on passenger side (US), low on the block, in front of the starter.
After the battery has been disconnected the ECM needs to have an idle learn done. I bring this up because the poor running symptoms can be caused by this. If no idle learn is done it takes about 2 weeks of every day driving for the ECM to learn it in.
