ALDL Help
I've been reading through old posts here and still have questions about hooking a computer to my car. I want to use my laptop and an ALDL cable to read what my sensors are saying as well as being able to see live data while driving. My car is an LG4 5.0 1987. That year and motor seems to be skipped by several lists of supported cars. However, the truck LG4 in the same year is supported. Anyone have one of these cars and used a laptop and software to connect to it? What software is better? Also which pins are used on my car or should I just get a bare pin type cable? Thanks

Re: ALDL Help
Haven't gotten there yet myself. My first attempts failed with the home made cable. The transistor finally broke while I was swapping around the resistor that 'some' carb models 'may' require. I plan on ordering a universal cable and re-try over the holidays. The data pins are A and D for carb, though.
Let me know how it goes for you.

Re: ALDL Help
winALDL should be able to read the data stream. Make the externally powered transistor cable. It only costs about 12 dollars in parts to make a really really nice cable with a led and an enclosure.
Your computer will most likely need to be put into aldl mode to read the data stream correctly.
