Code 45 rich running and a bunch more... whats wrong?

Hi again, this car never fails to let me down HAHAHAHA. ok heres a list of whats wrong 3.1 liter motor

1 engine misses at idle in park on occaision
2 a few months ago i had where when the car (auto) shifted up 1-2 it bogged out almost to a stall and shifted
3 was driving about 50 mph and it was locked out but a miss started and it really puttered down the road
4 always has run rich for me changed o2 and did an exhaust system and its still shooting powder off the tail pipes but tonight gave me a code 45 at idle in park
5 at idle in drive it almost stalls in drive (to the point that i quickly throw it in neutral and rev up to keep it alive) it has stalled a few times
6 now that its colder it does hesitate a lot when running the first few minutes

im sure theres more that im forgetting but any ideas?

Re: Code 45 rich running and a bunch more... whats wrong?

Sounds like you have a misfire issue caused by the ignition system/fouled pugs/bad wires.
The misfire will indicate excess air in the exhaust from the unburnt charge resulting in a lean indication to the ECM. The ECM will attempt to add fuel and compound the problem.
Check/clean the plugs, confirm plugs are correct and gaps are right, check wires are good (or just replace them)
Check any other ignition parts for possible problems and then see if things improve.
Putting a scanner on it would confirm the o2 readings indicate lean.

Yes, it is. I'm on my third, and I'm sure it was replaced before I bought the car, being that the one that was on it was a Wells unit (not factory). However, I seriously doubt that is your problem. Generally when the module goes, the engine either doesn't start or it will jerk really bad on acceleration, with a jumping tach needle. Some guys I know even carry spares in their vehicle for when they go.

How old is your ignition coil? Have you tested the signal coming out of your IAT, MAP, and CTS? Any one of those 4 things can lead to this problem. Oh, and I almost forgot... Do you have any exhaust leaks?
