Swapping an ecm in an LG4?

I was just wondering is it possible to swap the ecm in my 83 trans am LG4 to a later year one? is there any benefit? as i know it is a good swap for fuel injected cars.

I also am thinking about swapping my mechanical speedo to an electronic one, so maybe do both?

I'm curious about this too. I have heard of LG4 guys putting in an L69 ECM, especially if you swap to a hotter cam. The L69 would already be set up for something like this.

Re: Swapping an ecm in an LG4?

My first swap was from a 84 vette ECU to a 87-89 truck ECU(7747). Was the truck ECU superior? I doubt it. the speed of the ECU was most likely similar. I needed to because the 84 was not hacked and not supported. My car was sig modified. next swap was to EBL. Much faster processor, expanded tables, etc, etc. Now the swap you may want consider is EBL or a late model PCM from a mid 90's truck I believe. They are faster and supported. See threads by Dimented on use of PCM. Or go aftermarket like EBL MS or others.

Re: Swapping an ecm in an LG4?

I read about that, but didn't want to get too involved, my junk yard actually had a car that I was able to acquire the Baro sens, ESC and KS, and wiring from, though i've yet to hook it up.

Would the newer (90's truck) PCM control the CCC? Also what benefits would the newer PCM offer over the older one? on a stock CCC LG4 (L69) 305? (or eventually a XE256 modded 305?)
