can a chip run this setup?

port polished l98 heads 2.02 1.60 valves with this cam from comp 08-305-8, HSR intake and fuel rails, stroked to 383, running 36lb injectors. I have a speed density car 1991. Anyone running a chip on a similar setup? cant afford the fast xfi or accel right now. Any input would be great. thanks

Re: can a chip run this setup?

why couldn't it? granted, it's going to be a PITA to tune with that kind of duration, but the aftermarket ECUs aren't any more versatile than a well documented GM ECM, which you running $8D, you definitely have one of the more well understood masks.

not sure which one I am running. All I do know is that I have a LB9 in a 91 formula WS6.

if you've never changed it, then yes, it's $8D running on a 1227730 ECM.

well it's been patched to allow for a lot of things the factory never intended... i believe there is a thread for it, something like S-AUJP or Super AUJP, something like that. there was also a boosted 8D mask that was at least being attempted at one time, i'm not sure of the results though.

tip: buy from a knowledgable individual, not a company.

why u say that? I have seen more good then bad about PCM. I would rather dyno tune but I have yet to find someone that can actually do it here in town

more often that not, a company just does generic changes with no regard to how it actually performs(hypertech is horrible for this, actually had one of their chips from ~1988 in an 85 IROC).

with the kind of motor you have built, i wouldn't trust those kind of changes. and depending on what they're charging, you may be able to tune it yourself cheaper.

assuming you have a laptop: an ALDL cable, a chip burner and a chip or two.

ALDL cable could be made yourself if you're good with stuff like that, or buying one isn't too expensive ~$60 at aldlcable.com

burner: a willems is super cheap, but requires a bit more conectration than a BURN2 from moates(~$85)

chip(s): $5 each at moates.net. and since they are EEPROM, they take all of 1/4 second to erase and maybe 3-4 seconds to program.

so for less than $150, you can ensure it's a perfect tune. i can hook you up with some autotuning stuff to get fuel corrected pretty quickly using tunerpro V5 and either excel or openoffice.
