Is it dead?

Hi. I am from the UK and love american cars....Until they go wrong

Could my PCU/PMC be dead? How do i check it?
1989 5.7 IROC Camero = No spark at the coil HT. Got power into it but
Not pulsing.
Fitted new coil.
Engine does turn over.
Fuel pump is working.
All wiring feeds show 12volt.

Was running sweet. Switched off. A while later, restarted, then it just stopped. Not been able to get it running again...I HATE ELECTRONICS.

Thanks

Re: Is it dead?

No, not the ECM. The distributor is on it's own during cranking (turning over).

Odds are either the ignition module died or the pick up coil went open.

The pickup coil is under the cap, rotor, and star wheel of the distributor. It plugs into the ICM. Unplug it and measure the resistance of the coil. Should be about 800 - 1100 ohms.

I must say, relative to your thread title, that distributor is dead. Need to replace a bunch of parts...

RBob.
