Fried ecu?

My friend pulled my prom out of my 746 ecu while my car was running then plugged it back in upside down.... it happened before i could stop him. the prom wasn't my stock prom it was one i tried burning and wanting to know if it worked or not.
Anyways I plugged my stock prom back in while my car was off, turn the key and my SES light starts flashing fast and the other light blinks 7 times then stops, is my ecu a goner?

Re: Fried ecu?

Is stock prom oriented correctly?

When I get (no longer) get the fast blinky it is generally prom failure. Pull codes at ALDL.

Re: Fried ecu?

Well I never had the stock prom, when I opened the computer I found a tbichips.com chip in its place but yes it worked until it was taken out and had a g2 adapter plus burnt chip placed in. Thats when I tried it out and my dumb friend pulled it cause i showed him my engine light was on now.... can changing chips while the engine is on damage it or was it the putting it in upside down part that messed it up?

Re: Fried ecu?

Is the G2 adapter necessary. IOW can you remove it and just place chip in to test if it is a G2 connectivity issue? Pull codes from ALDL....

Re: Fried ecu?

I don't have a scanner never needed one and i don't know how to do the paper clip thing. I'm going to auto zone tomorrow to get a water pump would they have obd1 scanners there or do you recommend getting one else where.

The tbichips.com chip fits into the slot without the g2, the g2 is only for the chips i was burning which i only burned one before things went wrong.

Re: Fried ecu?

BORROW a scanner from Autozone since you cannot drive vehicle (they will do free) or can you drive in limp mode ????

Thanks i'll borrow one. No, limp mode will not work just did a 305 to 350 swap and it won't hold idle

Re: Fried ecu?

Most Autozones will only have an OBDII Scanner. If your lucky you will get somebody there who knows Camaros and can show you the paper clip trick.
