how easy is it too detune a 7730 for cali smog?

I am wondering how hard it would be too detune my 7730 for california smog emisions, it has been tuned for performance and too work with 58mm throttle body, ported 083 heads with 2.02 1.60s, and a lt4 hot cam but i only have the 1.5 rockers on it right now? These crazy shops want alot of money, is it that hard or are they ripping me off?

Re: how easy is it too detune a 7730 for cali smog?

Yes i have all the correct stuff installed for smog, just need it detuned because it was tuned for performance like the timming and air fuel ratio, the guy who was supose too tune it for smog said he has had bigger cams than that lt4 hotcam in vehicals and has been able too detune them for smog with no problem so im thinkin since i only have the 1.5 rockers on right now that it shojld pass easy with it detuned

If your drivability tune is correct there is no need to change anything to pass smog.

After all, they test at 15 and 25 MPH.

If you fail it is not the cams fault, it's the tuner.

Kevin has tuned much larger cams than a LT4 hot cam and they pass the test just fine.

Adding cats won't make it leaner, it will clean up the pollutants.

However, if it is running rich down low, it will ruin the new cats in time.
The biggest killer to a cat is raw fuel, after all, it is just an afterburner, it burns up any fuel that didn't get burned in the combustion process.

ok cool ty for the info, when he did the tune he kept the air fuel ratio at about 15.0 im pretty possitive he didnt want it running too rich because i had just had the motor built and diddnt want it too flood the motor because the rings wouldnt seat properly
