Re: Gm aldl obd1 cable adapter for laptop?

Just spend the $80 on the one from Moates, it's worth it and I don't know of any cheaper unless you make your own I think.

Re: Gm aldl obd1 cable adapter for laptop?

How can I make my own? I just can't see spending 80 on a cable though, all it is a 12 pin adapter hooked up to a usb 2.0 wire

Wrong, there's a box in the middle that converts the signal. As for how to make it I think I recall seeing something on the board here, just do a search.

Re: Gm aldl obd1 cable adapter for laptop?

dollar? no

the most expensive parts in the whole operation are the male OBD1 connector(currently $15 + ship from aldlcable.com) and the enclosure for the serial-USB converter (radioshack has decent ones for ~$3-4).

$15 is YOUR cost, not theirs.

Re: Gm aldl obd1 cable adapter for laptop?

true, but anyone making a cable using their male connector can't really be blamed for that.

^ that's the only other alternative i've ever been able to find at a (more) decent price.

Re: Gm aldl obd1 cable adapter for laptop?

It does cost them little to nothing to make. The mark up price is ridiculous. Are these sites trust worthy for credit cards?

Re: Gm aldl obd1 cable adapter for laptop?

The aldlcable.com one has been used on here by members for years, so I'd say they are good, I ordered the one from red devil river a few days ago, so I guess I'll be the test dummy lol. I used PayPal and they gave me a tracking number, so far so good.

scroll down to page 12. I built one before and got the parts at Radio shack. May be easier to just buy a ready made cable tho.

Any suggestions for the datalogging software to start off with? I'm just starting to get my feet wet on PROM tuning.

i know ive been all over . sorry , i see the cables and i was just getting confused . these cables will just plug right in and work . but on other posts people were saying that you have to take out the resistor out or it will change ecm mode . but i guess with these cables the a &b ground dont matter

winALDL site has the schematic for building your own.

the interface to your ALDL I believe is like 3 male spade fittings. Nothing special there.
