switching to 95 or newer computer

Has anyone changed to a 95 or newer lt1 computer, harness, sensors on their
tpi engine. how hard would that be and what would be involved. seems if you
could do that, it would be a lot easier to tune and better running.

Re: switching to 95 or newer computer

Problem for 96 and newer is cost of OBDII tuning equipment and software.

Problem for 94, 95 LT1 PCM is working out code for ignition as they came with OptiSpark distributor. I've looked into this with a regular small cap EFI distributor, but have never found an $EE disassembly?

Other 95 type PCM is 16197427 which is well covered here, but still a memcal 8192 baud so not much improvement unless you have 160 Baud system.

It has been done, not sure by whom. They posted a picture of the opti-spark guts mounted in the base of a large cap distributor.

Re: switching to 95 or newer computer

Cool! I've thought about making a hybrid Opti, like the hybrid small cap I use in other then GM motors...

http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...BI-Conversions!

But then found you can machine the LT1 intake for regular dist, and went that route. Never did further persue it because I couldn't justify any benifit? Yeah flash bin through ALDL is cool, but that was about it? Wasn't worth the time to do distributor let alone added cam sensor, or cam and crank for OBDII LT1...

If you need more then what GM OBDI has to offer? EBL has it all covered without the headaches of reinventing the wheel!

Re: switching to 95 or newer computer

You could go a step farther and use CNP ignition. Look up the '0411 swap.

Re: switching to 95 or newer computer

I think some benefits would be going from batch fire injection to sequential injection. seems that would be preferred.

Re: switching to 95 or newer computer

Read this http://www.gmtruckcentral.com/articles/lt1swap.html LT1 with a distributor and a 411. and I am working on an LT1 for my 91 vert, I will dump the opti and not use a distributor.

Re: switching to 95 or newer computer

That's a cool project and nice job, should run really well! My hats off to him.

But it's 2012, LS motors are all over for cheap, so why not just drop in something better and easier?

Re: switching to 95 or newer computer

I personally like the looks of a TPI unit, and I'm not looking for 6500 rpm's. just thought it might be more effecient and easier to tune.
