Please help - Installed heated 02 sensor, now barely starts.

The ECM was going back and forth from CL to OL with the one wire 02 sensor during normal driving, so I installed a 3 wire heated one. The car has headers and some other engine mods. With the old 02 I could feel it surging as it was going in and out of CL, it now runs smooth as silk. Now though, it barely starts, I'm guessing lack of fuel on startup??? I would have figured it would have taken a little while for the heated 02 to warm up but it appears to be instantaneous.
Has anyone heard of this when going from a 1 to 3 wire sensor? Thoughts, and thanks in advance.

Note: Cold start it barely started, like it wasn't getting fuel, I cracked the throttle just a little, started but had to hold RPM's at 1200 for about a minute or else it acted like it was going to die. Warm start it didn't start no throttle, tried to crack the throttle, no luck. I eventually ran the battery down without it ever starting.

Try putting the old 1 wire O2 sensor back in. If it goes back to normal then either the new O2 sensor is bad or you wired it in wrong.

If u ran the battery down, then i suspect you wired the 12v power wire of the sensor to something with a continuous 12volts! You only want it wired to a switched 12v.(12v only when the ignition key is on)

It is wired to a 12v switch so its not getting constant power. How long does it take for a Bosch heated 02 to heat up because I'm thinking maybe its trying to start in CL due to the lack of fuel on startup.

a 12 v switch? Use the Egr solenoid, pink wire/black stripe. That is a "switched" source meaning it only comes on when the ignition is in the "on" position.

starting in closed loop doesn't matter. A warm engine may sometimes start that way anyway.Like it was mentioned earlier, try the old o2 sensor and see how it runs. Just a question. How are u monitoring open/closed loop? are u using Tunerpro? Have you scanned for codes?

Re: Please help - Installed heated 02 sensor, now barely starts.

Hey I've been having trouble getting my 86 Z started after driving it for 5-10 minutes. It seems when the car is warmed up it does this but when I Start it cold it starts right up. I read that the 3 wire o2 sensor would fix this because I do not have cats on the car any longer. Except when I look online to buy the 3 wire 02 sensors for my Z there's not compatible. Does anyone know a site or if this is even the reason it has trouble starting warm?

o2 sensor has nothing to do with that. Sounds like your starter. Starter could have a short or could be overheating inside.
