Using ECM for ignition only

So right now I have a TBI system on my car.

Consists of:
L98 short block
World S/R heads, ported, 2.02/1.6 valves
Comp Cams 290H-R12
Edelbrock Torker II
Headers
3" exhaust, no cat, flowmaster 40
454 Throttle body

My plan is to install a 750 cmf carb but I would like to keep the computer controlled distributor. Has anyone done this? I'm sure i could make the TPS work on the carb if I needed it. So the only electrical components removed would be the Injectors and the IAC. Any input would be appreciated.

some ~1981-85 GM pickup trucks were that way-had a small ECM for just the distributor while the carb was a non-electronic Q-jet.these pickups had"ESC"-electronic spark control emblems and a knock sensor was used.

Why?

Just used a vacuum advance dizzy, will work better than what you're trying to do with less complication.

Any reason you don't want to keep a full EFI system?

Reason for not wanting to keep the tbi is simply because I feel like I'm being held back with it. The throttle body just doesn't sit right with the carb squarebore intake. I would like the keep the electronic distributor because I have access to a chip burner and I would be able to fine tune my timing curve.

Yes, has been done, by me. See the Tuning guide book sticky on the DIY_PROM thread here. Chapter 5, under the '8746/'7747/'8063 ECM section, SA Logic.

Works a treat...

Let me see to get a link in a moment and post back.

Oh, and having ECM control over the SA is better then ECM control over AFR (only).

RBob.

Here you go:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...cs-anyone.html

Note that this was a conversion (from carb, etc.) and I used the '747 ECM. It was the first of the TBI ECMs to be publicly hac'd. And yes, it worked a treat.
