ecm not flashing codes
ecm not flashing codes
OK I have posted a few issues I am experiencing with my car in other areas here but can't seem to find help so I'm trying again. I have a 92 camaro rs with a 5.7 swap and 700r4 bother are mildly built and have a moates emulator (which I'm not familiar with) on my ecm. One day while leaving work I started my car and it was running irregular and idling around 2k. After pulling out of the lot I noticed my speedometer wasn't working but I slowly crept home. This has been two months ago now and I still due to lack of time haven't figured it out. I tried the paper clip method to read the codes but it shows no codes? The ses light comes on and stays solid from the moment the switch is turned. I'm not sure if my speedometer caused all this or if it is my ecm or what? All I know is I'm going crazy without my car! Also it seems to run rich and the temp wants to run on the higher side when I start it. Really need ideas here I am stumped. I am not incredibly familiar with ecm tuning etc or these cars to be honest. Thanks for any help.

Re: ecm not flashing codes
What ECM did you use? Is this still TBI or did you go TPI? Or was it MPFI and you added the two connectors to the stock harness for an 8-cylinder engine?
The fact that the SES doesn't do the key-on, engine-off blink means that the ECM is in limp mode. That could be an ECM or emulator issue.

Re: ecm not flashing codes
Plug back in the stock memcal and see if you can enter diagnostic mode. It sounds as if there is a zif socket connection issue or a corrupt .bin .
Re: ecm not flashing codes
I don't have the stock memcal but I do have access to other ecm's to test (can't get one today though). Not sure if the bin has an issue or how to go about fixing that as I'm not into the tuning side of things. Completely lost when it comes to that stuff. Thanks for info
Re: ecm not flashing codes
My car has the moates 2.0 emulator and memory adapter which if I'm not mistaken (and I may be) replaces the stock memcal. All of that plus the tune was done by PO so like I said before, my knowledge is slim to none on ecms. Thanks again

Re: ecm not flashing codes
You still need a memcal to address the injector fire rate, I/o buffer and netres for lhm.

Re: ecm not flashing codes
The memcal needs to be hooked to the g1, if you don't have one you can find aujp memcals on eBay or tpi parts .net or a 3.1l will work on a pinch soldering in a jumper between 56-62 on the memcal and disabling the ks.
Re: ecm not flashing codes
It has the memcal in it but it is not the stock one (I don't believe) that is why I was saying I don't have a stock one to replace it with.

I'm not following you. I'm dumb to this stuff for the most part lol. Are you saying if second digit on memcal is r or p that it is repro? I will have to look in the morning to read them.

Re: ecm not flashing codes
The letters I'm referring to are an the memcals white board. R is from a 350 P is from a 305 but for testing purposes will work. If the memcal is stock having a silver sticker on the prom chances are you will be able to blink codes atleast the thee code 12s and vats would be enabled so it may not start.

It was a 3.1 but the ecm harness and everything I believe has been swapped. I couldn't find a buffer when I looked so I assume it was also removed or didn't have one. My car as it sits won't even flash a 12 with whatever it has wrong with it. My original thought was the vss went out and because it sends the ecm a signal that it possibly altered something that is throwing the tune off. But again I'm not intimate with ecm's. However after some searching I have wondered if the ecm was in lhm. Could the vss signal interfere with the tune in a way that threw the whole ecm out of whack?

Re: ecm not flashing codes
The lack of vss signal a code 24 would show. I may not nessesaraly cause it to go into lhm mode. A excessively high idle while not moving will throw a code 24. Usually that would be a vacuum leak. Since it was a 3.1 it would not have a vss buffer.
Re: ecm not flashing codes
I can't get it to show any code whatsoever. With the ecm in lhm is it possible that it would not send a reading to the cluster for speedo? I think the odds of both going out simultaneously are not likely but... If one can affect the other than it seems possible. I am going to try and borrow a stock ecm in the morning and see what happens. I just want my car back on the road so I can get to work on the rest of it.

Re: ecm not flashing codes
If the memcal says azty or iirc the knock filter has a L, 0 or 2 as the second digit it's the v6 memcal and will not work as is.

Re: ecm not flashing codes
All 730 ecms are the same. If you install the aujp memcal without the g1 you should be able to blink codes (12). It may not start depending on if the ECM is receiving a vats signal. If you can atleast blink codes with the aujp there is a issue with the binary file on the ostrich or the ostrich battery needs to be replaced. IMO a ostrich should be used as a tuning tool not for permanent installation .

Re: ecm not flashing codes
It's not real common for the ostrich to loose it's data but it can happen. If you need the vats disabled or help with the ostrich let me know
Re: ecm not flashing codes
OK I changed my ecm and without g1 car runs just as it did before. With g1 it won't even start. No ses lights I get the code 12 and that's all I get.

Re: ecm not flashing codes
So with the g1 and the ostrich hooked up that leads me to believe the file is corrupt or the battery on the ostrich is bad.

You will need to hook up the ostrich to your computer and do a read and use tuner pro and the $8d adx file and do a compare to the aujp file to see if the .bin looks corrupt. Or open up the ostrich and check the battery with a volt ohm meter.

Re: ecm not flashing codes
The only other thing I can think of is emailing or calling moates.net have them test the ostrich 2 and g1 read the binary file if possible and I will burn you a chip to install on the g1 for $10 shipped if that help.
Re: ecm not flashing codes
The battery in that thing they say will last forever but idk. I may just get you to burn me a chip. What specifications or modifications would you need to know to do it?

Besides Datalogging in closed loop. Injector size and what cylinder heads you are using.
