New to this board
As an intro, I am an old fart still working on my car. I will not fit her exactly I do not have F-body.. Far from that. I have a 1950 Buick with a bored, camed and other stuff 263 Straight Eight. Why am I here? I am running a 1990s TBI ! I need info and understanding once in awhile.
.
So, may not be polite to jump right in with a question, but here it is anyway. The ECM is controlling the timing advance. Initial timing set , with bypass, at 0. My compression is t 9.5 or better. I get "pinging" sometimes. So the question is does the initial make a difference in final timing? Or does the ECM control the specific timing regardless of initial.
Thanks
Ben

Re: New to this board
As an example, say both the base and the calibration initial at both at 6° BTDC. The ECM will subtract the base timing from the final desired at-crank timing. With the distributor base setting adding that 6° back in.
