MSD Crank trigger kit for 1992 stock HEI

I haven't done any testing and I do realize at the very least using this crank trigger kit with any accessories would mean some effort would have to be spent in order to align the serpentine belt setup, as this crank trigger kit goes in between the harmonic balancer and crank pulley. But to my technical question...

Can the signal from this kit replace the signal from the cam on the old school 1992 HEI setup in order to make the spark more accurate by eliminating the crank to cam to distributor mechanical path?

Most likely yes, the pickup looks to be a reluctor type which will interface with the N & P pins of the ICM. Maybe ask Summit or MSD if it is a reluctor type of pickup.

Thanks Bob!
I was in contact with Summit and MSD today, and MSD said it'll work with a MSD 6AL... So when the time time comes, I'd like to try to wire in the MSD ignition wheel without the MSD box first, just for S&G's. But it might be in about 1 month. If that fails, than I'll have to go with a MSD ignition control. But first I'll fire everything up stock.

BTW Bob,got in the EBL P4 Flash and loaded in the WUD to the laptop. I'm about to go plug it in to the build!

Also, got in the 1992 distributor and wires. It's not going to be long now, before first fire.

I'm not a huge fan of sandwiching wheels between the crank pulley and balancer.

I welded a 36 tooth wheel to the crank pulley, and I'm using a Ford pickup. Works fantastic.

I'm not really sure what the benefit is of a 4x crank trigger. ? You still need to use a dizzy to distribute spark to the correct cylinder.

If you went with a missing tooth wheel with more resolution you could run wasted spark CNP, or add a cam sensor and run full sequential spark and fuel.

More accurate spark timing. Eliminates a lot of monkey motion between the crank and distributor.

So Anesthes brings up a goodpoint, it is a x4 crank signal, while the original 1992 cam reluctor wheel has 8 points. Is this a problem for the 770 ECM? Maybe this is why the MSD-6AL was recommended?

Not an issue, the distributor is a 4X crank signal. Recall that it turns at cam shaft speed, which is half of crank speed (RPM). If there would have been an issue I would have stated as such.

Ah,sweet. Makes sense, although the cam reluctor wheel inside the distributor has 8 points. Why not just 4?

Because the crank spins twice, the dizzy spins once.

So it's still 8 pulses per cycle, just 4 per revolution.
