Confusion using maf ecm for map
New here, and new to ecm swaps. I am trying to do a intake swap on a tbi 3.1l v6 in a 92 isuzu rodeo, currently it is a map system, using a two connector 1228838 ecm. I want to swap this for a tpi intake from a 1991 camero. Maybe pick up a little mpg and hp to boot. The mechanical stuff is just bolt on, but the wiring is a bit harder, I was initially going to use a dynamic efi system, and send in my old ecm, but a week after committing to this project their website went down, seems to be permenantly since the owner passed away. Real shame for my project, and the community. Fom what I gather he was a real upstanding guy, and the ecms very capable for the price. So that leaves me with more questions, I have gotten alot of conflicting info on using ecms that run map being used for maf systems and vice versa. Some say you can, some say no. I am looking for a ecm that can run map tpi, and have a two plug connector because the repin and mounting space requirements for a 3 plug ecm are problems I don't need. I looked into a 1227302, which was on the 2.8 camero, and it has a similar pinout, but runs maf. Since this may eventually be put on a 3.4 block I think I might do better to learn how to tune with a map setup. Am I correct in thinking the 1227302 can't run map? The interweb seems to think so, but I get on the stickys forums, and I see a sticky talking about a repin project swapping pins on a 7302 to 7730 which is incidently what the donor car had which runs map. Maybe I am just too inexperienced on the subject be asking the right questions. So any help would be appreciated at this point, also any hardware advice would be great too, cams, rockers, distributor or not, etc. What is worth the price or not. Looking for a build competitive with the Honda 3.2 which came in later year rodeos, and made about 200hp. Not looking for a race car engine, torque and hp well under 4000 is where this rig would live. I would ask the s10 forum or planet isuzu, but they all defer to third gen for ecm and 60 degree engine expertise.

Are you going to use the 3.1L mpfi intake or you mentioned tpi so is this an engine swap ? The 302 is a maf based ecm

More interweb confusion, yes the mpfi intake. Tpi is thrown around alot I thought these terms were interchangable in this case. My mistake. The not-throttle body intake.

I’m having trouble following but I assume 3.1L mpfi intake and 730 ecm will work fine. Just need to tune out vats or add a hz modular or passkey module to send 30hz to the ecm.

Re: Confusion using maf ecm for map
I guess my rambling point was, Is there a good candidate ecm that uses two plugs instead of the three like the 7730 and runs map? My original mounting is under a small kick panel and would be very difficult to mount ecm sideways, have the wiring fit under the panel or even reach the far enough to plug in if mounted. To say nothing of repinning almost the entire harness vs 5 or 6 wires. I am not using a cam sensor and will never add forced induction, and use a manual transmission. Thank you for your patience.

A 1227808 can run maf or map with correct pinning and tuning. Or under hood mount a 1227727

Thank you, that's exactly the lead I needed, I will look into those. I had forgotten about the weather resistant ecms. And had only heard passing things about Australian code.

The 1227727 ecm connector is alittle harder to find but you might find a lumina on eBay.
