WinAldl
Hey guys whats up I finally made my interface cable and dl the software. Now i have a bunch of questions i used the 3.9 k resistor and went for a test drive i noticed my 02 voltage dipped down to .18x v. And the data i understand i dont under stand the spark counts or the o2 menu. Also which resistor should i plug in the aldl. Thanks.

First try without resistor. If it works then that is great. If not, then you can use a 10k resistor.
Spark counts are the detected knocks. If you get lots of them then you can try i higher octane fuel or retard the timing some.
If you are burning chips then you can retard the timing in the area that gets a lot of knocks.
The O2 tab is the oxygen sensor values for different engine vacuum and different RPM.

Don't put any resistor in the aldl, if you do you take the ecm out of it's normal operation and either put it into ALDL (aka CRAPPY) mode, backup mode, or diagnostic mode. None of them are useful unless you've got some serious problems with the car running in normal mode. Even then I tend to stay far FAR away from any other modes.
The o2 voltage tables are important to notice any really lean spots in your fuel curve under WOT, I've learned to ignore just about everything the stock o2 values are in winaldl. There is too much time between captures that it makes it very close to worthless. Instead, use winaldl to watch your BLMs, vacuum, TPS position, and spark counts (aka knock).
If you notice a lot fo knock counts (in the normal sensor page/tab of the program) and it keeps going up then the ecm is retarding timing and you're loosing power. If you aren't burning your own eproms the only thing you can do is back off the base timing until the knock goes away.
BLMs below 128 means the ecm thinks the car is running too rich, anything more than 128 and you're running lean! Try to avoid being above 128 especially with TBI and a stock eprom. If the car idles at BLM's around 112 or whatever, leave it, so long as your light throttle cruising BLMs are near 128. Adjust your fuel pressure if you aren't burning your own eproms.
Now can you see why eprom burning is SO awesome?

To put or not to put a 10k resistor?. That's is the question.
On the 8192 baud ALDL interface (circuit by Peter Gargano) there are one 10 k resistor between A and B terminals. It's right for a 730 ECM?.

Denis V.

Don't use a resistor is the answer. The older ecm's needed a resistor but I have yet to find an 8746 (89-92 f-body TBI) ecm that requires it.

Yes, O.K., but only I wish I knew how make my ALDL cable for an 730 ECM in my 1988 Chevrolet Celebrity with MAF and MAP.
I had reprogrammed the PROM without scanner, laptop, etc. Only based on the TRAXION's tech article (the best PROM's article on the net).
Now, I need improve my elementary job on the PROM.

dam i think i got screwed
I do have and 89 just that i had to change my computer cause it got messed up last year is i possible they gave me an older computer. Also i tried running with no resistor and it didnt read ne thing. What do you guys think how would i be able to see which computer i have.l

It should have all the numbers on the outside. From what I know, there are only 2 other ecms that'll just bolt in and seem to work with no problems. The problem is that they too don't require a resistor so I think you should recheck or have a friend go over your hookup. It could be as simple as a backwards transistor or you just tapped into the wrong pin!
